About the Legal Aid NT:
Legal Aid NT is an independent statutory authority established under the Legal Aid Act 1990 (NT). Our purpose is to ensure that people in the Northern Territory understand their legal rights and disadvantaged people have access to quality Legal Services, and to uphold a fair Northern Territory and national justice system.
About the role:
Under the direction of and reporting to the Practice Lead - Social Support and in collaboration with the Senior Solicitor of the Prisoner Release Legal Service, the Prisoner Release Case Worker provides individualised assessments, parole planning, and referral services to prisoners with mental health conditions and / or cognitive impairments seeking parole to ensure they receive appropriate non-legal support services.
About you:
The position requires a self-motivated social worker who is committed to the principles of social justice and a working understanding of the legal system in the NT and how it affects accused persons. You will have an interest in contributing to the development of processes of this new service and have experience undertaking risk assessments and case planning with vulnerable clients who present with cognitive impairments or mental health conditions.
You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage and build collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds including culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and First Nations peoples.
On-going training will be provided in relation to specific legal issues.
