Form of workCovalent Lithium is a new greenfield lithium project that is currently under construction to develop the Mt Holland lithium project and produce battery-quality lithium hydroxide in Western Australia. Our project is backed by the expertise and funding of our joint venture partners – SQM and Wesfarmers.
The Mt Holland project consists of a mine and concentrator located south of Southern Cross and a refinery at Kwinana that will produce 50,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide once construction and commissioning is complete. Our lithium hydroxide will be exported to international manufacturers to produce over 1 million electric vehicles. This is an exciting opportunity to join a battery metals project that is driving the new energy sector in WA.

The role
You will be accountable for providing technical expertise as part of the reliability engineering function within the Fixed Plant maintenance team in delivering the annual maintenance targets for equipment, with zero harm to employees, contractors and the environment.
You'll have responsibility for technical advice, and Control System performance of the DeltaV Distributed Control System, including the development of control loops, monitoring equipment performance and health, managing threats, performing advanced diagnostics, implementing improvement projects, and provide expert technical advice in an efficient and sustainable manner.
This full time, permanent role will be ex Perth on a 8:6 roster to our Mt Holland site.
Key Responsibilities
•Follow integrated business processes and systems for Fixed Plant, to provide effective equipment performance and equipment health monitoring to sustain the required equipment reliability.
•Maintain and improve the control loops to ensure optimum and stable plant performance.
•Diagnose any control loop faults.
•Debottleneck control logic to improve plant safety and performance.
• Advise on and apply temporary Control System bridges to overcome process or plant problems without compromising process safety.
•Understanding of both production and maintenance strategies for large scale processing plant.
• Identify risks that have the capacity to compromise Fixed Plant performance outcomes and identify solutions to these issues to mitigate any impacts to desired outcomes.
•Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives in line with Operational Excellence.
•Actively participate in the establishment of a health and safety culture, leading by example, and following the required health and safety standards.
•Ensure all work is undertaken in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with statutory requirements and Covalent policies & procedures.
•Reporting of all health, safety and environmental incidents.
•Provide technical inputs for the preparation of budgets, including capital justification and forecasting of expenditure for improvement projects.
•Manage project expenditure to remain within approved budget and forecasts in compliance with commercial protocols and procedures.
Role Requirements
•5+ years in Fixed Plant maintenance and mineral processing
•Engineering tertiary qualification in Electrical & Instrumentation, Instrumentation Control, or Industrial Automation
•Knowledge of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
•Computerised Maintenance Management System experience (SAP or Pronto desirable)
• Valid driver’s license
• First Aid certificate desirable but not essential
• Experience in Control System and instrumentation design, system architecture, automation configuration, and industrial communications network protocols
•Working experience using Emerson DeltaV DCS
•Experience with Operational Readiness activities combined with considerable experience in transitioning from plant commissioning to steady state operations.
•Knowledge of legislative requirements, statutory and regulatory codes.
•Knowledge of capital expenditure management and project management.
• Demonstrated track record of diagnostics, problem solving, and solution implementation delivering significant process improvements
• Ability to work in remote and/or arid environmental conditions.
