Process Operations Engineer

The Process Operations Engineer will take an active role in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities, providing a high level of technical and process management expertise, to improve the delivery & performance of Coliban Water’s assets. 

In collaboration with the client and the existing Service Stream team, the role will work closely with the existing team to document operational envelopes for existing treatment plants and develop critical operating procedures for Coliban Water’s water and wastewater treatment assets.

The role will be required to build close working relationships with both Service Stream operational teams and client representatives and strive to enhance the quality, safety and Coliban Water customer experience delivered by the operations and maintenance service contract.

Key Responsibilities

The Process Engineer will take an active role in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities, providing a high level of technical and process management expertise, to improve the performance of Coliban Water’s assets. 

Key outputs of the role will include:

• Reviewing and completing the documentation of:
•  operational envelopes for Coliban Water Treatment Plants
• Critical operating procedures of Coliban Water water and wastewater treatment assets
• Ensure compliance with all state and federal legislation and regulations, especially where related to health and safety. Provide leadership to ensure the highest standard of safety is maintained for all stakeholders at all times.
• Ensure all Service Stream’s safety processes and procedures are adhered to.
• Actively lead and participate in all site OH&S activities and initiatives.
• Ensure compliance to Safety requirements by conducting regular audits and reviews of systems.
• Ensure that HSE risks related to operation and maintenance activities, whether carried out by employees or contractors, are properly managed.
• Contribute to a risk management culture to maximise the safety of people, plant and process as a result of our contractual activities.

• Work collaboratively with the Asset Performance Manager and Treatment Operations Lead, Senior Operators and our client representatives, to identify improvement initiatives that deliver improved OHS outcomes, treatment plant processes, asset reliability and/or financial savings.  Develop business cases to secure approval and funding from our client for Service Stream to deliver the improvement initiatives.
• Take a proactive role in the identification of the asset performance gap relating to Health Based Targets (HBT). Identify a pathway to meet the HBT through plant optimisation, changed operating parameters and/or capital investment.
• Lead and manage the delivery of special projects, such as developing comprehensive operational envelopes for individual treatment plants.
• Work with the Contract management team, field crews and operations personnel to deliver the optimisation program, with a focus on optimisation initiatives that deliver financial savings to Coliban Water. (e.g. energy and chemical cost savings).
• Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, efficiency, and performance of the client's treatment assets, including working with client staff and the Service Stream management team to improve works plans and the preventative maintenance program.
• Enhancing the collection and reporting of operational data to benchmark asset performance and track the value of improvement initiatives delivered by Service Stream.
• Build relationships with relevant parties with our client representatives, to secure approval for Service Stream to deliver the client’s minor capital delivery program (where applicable).
• Provide direction, guidance and mentoring to colleagues in the development and delivery of improvement initiatives and delegate as required to support achieving contract/business objectives.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

• Ideally, degree qualified in either Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering
• Have a minimum of 5 years water/wastewater treatment operations experience with advanced skills in treatment process analysis and optimisation.
• Have a solid knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and asset performance criteria.
• Demonstrate your knowledge and commitment to Quality Management principles, OH&S and the Environment.
• Build strategic relationships with the client to expand the services offered by the Service Stream Coliban Water contract.
• Maintain open and proactive communications with the client, liaising with the client regarding strategic and asset management initiatives.
• Actively foster a collaborative relationship.
• Deliver efficiencies (chemical, energy cost savings).
• Improve performance (asset reliability, reduce risk).
• Actively identify, facilitate and/or implement measures that contribute to overall process cost efficiency.
