We are seeking a dynamic and experienced mechanical engineer to join our team based in our offices in Brendale, QLD as a Product Design Engineer. This role would suit a candidate with +2 years' experience.
You will be required to design and develop new and existing products, ensuring they meet industry standards and customer requirements.
Utilising SolidWorks software to create detailed product specifications and prototypes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams locally and internationally to bring concepts to market efficiently.
This is a permanent position. Although the job role will require you to be in the office to have access to the physical product, we are open to varying degrees of working from home arrangements and flexible hours for a competent candidate. This role is for a self-starter and someone satisfied in doing this important role. As the Asia Pacific region is a medium sized company the role is very hands on and requires flexibility and understanding of the commercial realities. This is a demanding role and one at the pinnacle of engineering for the Asia Pacific region so this would need to be understood that further career progression is limited. This role reports to the National Operations Manager, a qualified engineer with many years of experience.
Principle Duties
Technical Expertise
- Gain a strong understanding of AS3996:2019
- Analyse reports such as FEA, flow rate, formal documentation, recommendations and report creation.
- Provide technical guidance and support, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, Australian standards and best practices in Product Design and engineering.
- Provide professional opinion on product testing and validation.
- Reviewing customer drawings and plans.
- Assist with quality control investigations and reviews.
- Modify and update existing drawings to portray accurate dimensions and load rating specifications.
- Assist in product improvement for quality, safety, optimisation.
- Maintain an accessible library of product drawings for utilisation by the Sales Team
Specifications Contracts and Tenders
- Assisting technically with projects, specifying requirements for customers, tenders and contracts.
- Communication with customers, councils, authority organisations.
- Assist with marketing (LinkedIn, Brochures etc.)
Project Management
- Work with your manager and the sales teams on the product development lifecycle, from concept to production and launch.
- Create project timelines, set milestones, and manage resources effectively to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Preparing and submitting CAPEX requests and business cases
- Prepare accurate analysis to avoid costly design mistakes and wasted tooling expenditure.
Customers and Interface
- Represent EJ at association events.
- On-site visits
- Presentations to associations, customers, stakeholders, etc.
Market Research and Analysis
- Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive products.
- Analyse data to make informed decisions about product features, pricing, and positioning in the market.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and manufacturing, to ensure alignment on product goals and strategies.
- Communicate effectively, providing regular updates on project progress and addressing any challenges.
- Coordinate and communication design concepts, product information and project updates with international EJ design and development teams.
- Product information, technical drawings, renders and thumbnails for website.
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with minimum 2 years’ experience.
- Proficient in Solidworks or similar software package
- Proven experience in Product Design, development, and project management.
- Create and understand analytical requirements, eg; FEA, flow rate calculations.
- Professional, enthusiastic, and proactive.
- Excellent time management and personal organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Able to work without close supervision.
- Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written.
- Good numeracy and communication skills

- In position of all necessary permits, government approvals to work in Australia.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Outlook, Word and Excel

- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
- Previous experience in the infrastructure or construction industry is a plus.
