About the Role:
Somage has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Production Supervisor or someone with a Chef / hospitality background to join our team based in Cheltenham, Victoria. The Production Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating the production team to ensure the efficient processing and quality of our beverages - these steps include: blending, milling, packing, batching, and production of our tea, drinking chocolate, chai, and matcha products, maintaining top-tier quality standards, operational efficiency and adhering to the food safety and quality control procedures.
Reporting to the COO, you will be a crucial member of our Operations team, responsible for ensuring the management of our production lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage production schedules – generated from our ERP system Ostendo - adjust work assignments and resolve operational challenges to meet production targets for all batches.
- Generate and receive all assembly orders documents for each scheduled job from our ERP system Ostendo.
- Lead the production team to achieve daily production goals and maintain optimal productivity levels in milling, blending, packing, batching, and production processes adhering to the food safety, HACCP and Organic procedures.
- Oversee and coordinate production activities, operate and maintain automated and semi-automated machinery ensuring adherence to quality standards, efficient resource utilization, and compliance with product specifications.
- Follow and implement procedures related to assembly orders completion efficiency, waste reduction and quality control.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the production team members involved in all steps: milling, blending, packing, and batching.
- Ensure prompt investigation and escalate production quality issues based on appropriate analysis.
- Follow and maintain Quality Control process for all products as per Somage Organic and HACCP guidelines.
- Ensure all Organic and HACCP control points are adhered to as per HACCP and Australian Certified Organic’s (ACO) standards.
- Foster a safe working environment by implementing and enforcing safety protocols and promoting a culture of safety awareness in all production processes.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize production processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives specific to tea, drinking chocolate, chai, and matcha manufacturing.
- Identify opportunities for CIP (continuous improvement planning) streamline processes, reduce waste, and increase overall production efficiency in products.
- Provide timely feedback and performance evaluations to team members, recognizing outstanding achievements and addressing areas for improvement in the milling, blending, and packing processes.
- Maintain accurate production records and reports, contributing to data-driven decision-making and ensuring proper batching and production.
- Assist in projects as applicable directly with CEO/COO
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of proven experience as a Production Supervisor/Manager in a manufacturing setting, preferably in the food and beverage industry.
- Solid understanding of production processes, quality control, and safety procedures specific to food manufacturing.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and maintain a keen eye for detail in milling, blending, packing, and batching processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications/ ERP system and a quick learner in new systems related to production.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills focused on quality production steps.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a results-oriented mindset in manufacturing operations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, ensuring efficient production in tea, drinking chocolate, chai, and matcha.
- Forklift Licence (preferred)
