Production Supervisor
Objectives: As a Production Supervisor working on the workshop floor, your primary responsibility is coordinating with the Production Manager and other supervisors. You aim to ensure a safe working environment while optimising production planning and processes. You will oversee daily production operations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, meeting production targets, and maintaining quality standards. Additionally, you’ll monitor production performance and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Workplace Health & Safety:
- Maintain a safe and healthy workshop environment by strictly adhering to company safety rules.
- Minimise the risk of accidents and injuries for staff using machinery.
- Participate in monthly safety committee meetings and ensure fortnightly Safety Meetings for the workshop crew.
- Prepare and hold monthly safety meetings, compiling and issuing minutes.
- Address actions resulting from external safety audits and monthly safety meetings.
- Safety Compliance:
- Assist in updating and maintaining the Safety Management system and related registers.
- Conduct weekly safety audits and promptly report any issues.
- Manage Safety Equipment Registers.
- Oversee safety/company/contractor inductions.
- Handle incident reporting and maintain the register.
- Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) register.
- Monitor and arrange PAT testing as required.
- Manage chains and lifting gear, arranging testing as needed.
- Ensure fire equipment servicing.
- Monitor forklift licenses, first aid training, and fire evacuation training, and arrange training as necessary.
- Keep Safe Working Procedures (SWP’s) and Machine Authorisations (MA’s) current.
- Machinery:
- Coordinate machine usage to maximise output.
- Set up and monitor machines and equipment for service, maintenance, and calibration.
- Ensure proper maintenance of machines according to procedures.
- Minimise machine downtimes by analyzing problems and conducting root cause analysis.
- Efficiently and cost-effectively repair machines using a combination of the maintenance officer and external contractors.
- Manage tooling for machinery, including maintenance, replacement, and improvements.
- Identify requirements for replacements or new machinery, estimate costs, and prioritise.
- Advocate for capital expenditure where appropriate.
- Housekeeping of Workshop:
- Ensure all workshop staff maintain housekeeping standards in the workshop and yard.
- Conduct daily site inspections and safety walkabouts within the workshop area.
- Collaborate with the Material Controller to decide where material is stored or should be stored.
- Properly process and store excess material upon job completion.
- Cost Control:
- Minimise wastage of materials used in jobs.
- Control expenses attributed to the workshop by adhering to procurement systems.
