About the opportunitySouthern Cross University is seeking a seasoned academic leader to provide leadership within the discipline of Veterinary Medicine. The suitable candidate will be instrumental in developing and leading the delivery of the curriculum for our innovative Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) program, serving as the Course Coordinator.
Key responsibilities include leading the design and delivery of a high-quality academic course, which encompasses curriculum design, staffing, accreditation EOI and site visits, and re-accreditation management. The position will be expected to drive continuous improvement of the program’s teaching and learning performance, and develop a research profile that aligns with the Faculty's research priorities. In addition, the Associate Professor/Professor plays a significant role in university life by contributing extensively to teaching, research, internal and external engagement in support of University objectives.
The BVetMed program is designed to support students in developing essential day one competencies, with the goal of producing motivated, skilled graduates who are well-integrated into the veterinary profession. We aim to produce graduates who are team players with the professional attributes, skills and knowledge desired by the profession.
Key aspects of the BVetMed program include:
- Providing early practical experience in veterinary practice and related workplaces.
- Integrating basic and clinical sciences for the early development of problem-solving skills.
- Developing a professional identity and understanding of the veterinary industry.
- Enhancing communication and teamwork skills.
- Allowing students to practise and refine core clinical skills.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant field or a Doctor Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Bachelor degree in Veterinary Medicine or veterinary science, paired with clinical experience. You will bring a history of academic leadership, demonstrated by the ability to drive innovation and foster excellence among colleagues. In addition, you possess tertiary teaching experience and substantial proficiency in teaching and coordinating units within a Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine course. A track record in clinical research, as evidenced by funded research, publications, and supervision of postgraduate students and/or clinical specialist trainees is essential. You will also be expected to facilitate engagement with the veterinary profession, including the ability to foster and lead effective relationships with students, staff, and industry representatives.

This is a full-time, continuing position located at our Lismore campus. Generous relocation support available. The level of appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, skills and experience.
The base salary for Academic Level D ranges from $154,080 - $169,474 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $198,284.
The base salary for Academic Level E is $197,689 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $231,296.
