About the role
Western District Health Service (WDHS) are seeking a passionate and motivated individual with expertise in community and/or youth development, project management or communication to help coordinate a whole of community change initiative that focuses on improving youth mental health and wellbeing across the Southern Grampians region. Join our broad and committed School and Community partnership group to implement the award winning Live4Life model, the only mental health education and youth suicide prevention model designed specifically for rural and regional communities. This is a terrific opportunity to work within a whole of community initiative in its early stages and be part of shaping the future outcomes for youth mental health and wellbeing.
As the lead agency for the Live4Life model across Southern Grampians, WDHS works with the Live4Life Southern Grampians School and Community Partnership Group to deliver the initiative across the whole shire and this position will be pivotal in the successful implementation and on-going sustainability.
Live4Life is a community grown, evidence-based, rural youth mental health education model. Its aim is to prevent youth suicide and improve youth mental health in rural and regional communities.
This position will be instrumental in coordinating the delivery of all core components of the Live4Life model in Southern Grampians. You will provide pivotal support and direction to the Live4Life Southern Grampians School and Community Partnership Group, coordinate with schools and community the delivery of Teen and Youth Mental Health First Aid and partner with the Youth Engagement Officer to provide key Crew events and activities that promote positive mental health and wellbeing to the wider community.
Further duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Developing a thorough understanding and awareness of all four components of the Live4Life model and the annual deliverables within program implementation in Southern Grampians.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with all partner organisations involved with Live4Life Southern Grampians, including fostering new partnership across the community.
- Coordination and support of the delivery of Teen and Youth Mental Health First Aid locally within all local secondary schools and across the community. With the opportunity to become and Instructor yourself, if applicable.
- Seeking funding and corporate partnerships to support implementation (this will include grant writing and acquitting) and work towards a road map for sustainability.
- Working with the Partnership group on advocating for the Live4Life model and improved youth mental health for the whole Southern Grampians community.
We are seeking someone with:
- Degree or Diploma in Youth, Social or Community Development or engagement, stakeholder management or communications
- Public Health experience and/ or experience in community or youth development within the Southern Grampians region will be highly regarded.
- Experience in working with or supporting young people, media, marketing or partnership brokerage.
- An understanding of diversity, disadvantage and current issues affecting young people.
- A positive and engaging attitude with the ability to create and maintain strong partnerships.
The successful applicant will hold, or be able to obtain, a current National Criminal Police/NDIS Check. Dependant on your position you may be required to obtain a Working with Children Check Clearance, Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme check and / or NDIS Worker Screening Check. All successful applicants are to comply with WDHS immunisation and vaccination requirements, including COVID and Booster.
