Job description

Support the delivery of capital projects that aim to improve Melbourne Airport customer experience. Develop business cases, manage project design, and delivering the diverse range of projects across Melbourne Airport's 2700 hectare lease!

We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a Program Manager to join our Engineering and Asset Management Business Unit. The core purpose of the role is to deliver capital works and asset replacement projects within the engineering and building services diverse portfolio across Melbourne Airport and Business Park which includes Terminals, Car Park, Maintenance Base and Airside precincts.

As a manager, you will oversee projects that involve engineering service developments to support airport growth, as well as the replacement or upgrade of assets and trunk infrastructure within Mechanical Services, HVAC, Civil, High Voltage Electrical, and Hydraulic Services.

You will achieve this through providing commercial rigour, smart procurement, rigorous cost control and pro-active management. You will manage both internal and external teams to:

  • Drive excellence and a quality approach with regard to design management
  • Smart and active procurement, cost control and management
  • Focused development and delivery Management.

Key responsibilities:

The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Leadership:

Support the Program Director in delivery of respective capital plan and engagement with stakeholder groups – internal and external. Engaging key APAM business stakeholders is a key success factor for the role.

Approvals, Development & Planning:

Prepare and/or support Business Cases/ Investment Committee/ Board Submissions on allocated projects to an acceptable standard.

Design Management:

Ensure project designs are integrated with the broader business's short, medium, and long term plans as appopriate, have a strong focus on Customer Experience in all passenger facing designs.

Procurement, Cost Control and Management:

Deliver projects within approved funding limits and identify any additional/ further funding requirements.

Delivery Management:

Key point of contact for stakeholders and issue escalation to assigned capital delivery projects.

Safety & Security

Lead project team to ensure safety is always front of mind across internal project team members and external consultants and contractors – Target Zero.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Engineering or Project Management Degree as a minimum
  • Post Graduate Qualifications (preferred)
  • Experience in engineering, planning, development, and delivery of projects in the built environment and/or Infrastructure (minimum 10-years)
  • Previous Project Management/ Project Delivery Experience through all stages of the Project Lifecycle.
  • End to end experience in leading built environment capital projects in a 24/7 complex operational environment.
  • Demonstrable technical proficiency in core engineering disciplines,
  • Project Management Consultancy and/or Constructor experience preferred,
  • Core understanding of key asset requirements through life cycle from Brief, Design, Build, Operate and Maintain,
  • Experience in leading multiple sub-programs or projects concurrently to meet agreed timelines
