About the team

The Infrastructure and Place division is in the process of delivering a once-in-a generation multi-billion program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built.

About the project

The M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace addresses a key 'missing link' between Sydney and Brisbane. The existing M1 Motorway, New England Highway and Pacific Highway carry some of the highest traffic volumes across the Hunter. This would bypass the congestion and merge points along this corridor and is predicted to reduce traffic volumes across the existing network. The proposed extension would also reduce traffic volumes on the New England Highway which would improve traffic flow and access for motorists travelling between Newcastle and Maitland.

This $2.1bn Australian and NSW governments funded project includes 15kms of dual carriageway and provides motorway access from the existing road network from four new interchanges at Black Hill, Tarro, Tomago and Raymond Terrace. The project also includes a 2.6km viaduct over the Hunter River and floodplain, the Main North Rail Line, and the New England Highway. Once complete, the extension will remove up to 25,000 vehicles a day from key congestion

The major construction phase of the extension will be delivered using two design and construct (D&C) contracts to ensure innovation, efficiency and value for money in the delivery of the project. The delivery of the project is expected to create 2700 jobs during construction.

The opportunity

Right now, we are seeking a Project Director to join our Regional Infrastructure Delivery Branch of Infrastructure and Place division. Based in Newcastle, the role will be supported by a Delivery Director and a Deputy Project Director working in partnership with our delivery contractors.

You will be responsible for overseeing all facets of the project including resolution of complex project issues and challenges, ensuring robust community and stakeholder engagement. You will lead multidisciplinary project teams developing and delivering a large infrastructure program of multi-modal projects and manages competing pressures between project scope, performance, cost, program, quality and risk, while meeting stakeholder expectations and longer-term community needs in an environment of intense public scrutiny.

As we journey into the future and as we are truly looking to build a diverse workforce, flexible work environment where differences are valued will be a key attribute to the success of the project.
