Job description

Project Director - M1 Pacific Motorway extension to RaymondTerrace Project

Organisation/Entity:  Transport For NSW

Job category:  Projects

Job location:

Newcastle, NSW, AU, 2302

Job reference number:  92979

Employment type:  Fixed Term Full-Time

Salary range:  An attractive remuneration package

You’re a purposeful leader who understands the why and connects everyday moments to the big picture.

You have the opportunity to deliver a landmark infrastructure project spanning Newcastle and Port Stephens.

In this role, you'll:

Join our Regional Project Delivery branch within the Infrastructure and Place division to lead The M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace project that addresses a key 'missing link' between Sydney and Brisbane.

The existing M1 Motorway, New England Highway, and Pacific Highway carry some of the highest traffic volumes across the Hunter. This extension will bypass the congestion and merge points along this corridor and is predicted to reduce traffic volumes across the existing network. The project will transform the way people move to and from the Hunter, improving travel times for commuters from Sydney to Brisbane and removing up to 25,000 vehicles a day from key congestion.

This $2.1bn Australian and NSW government funded project includes 15kms of dual carriageway and provides motorway access from four new interchanges at Black Hill, Tarro, Tomago, and Raymond Terrace. The project includes a 2.6km viaduct over the Hunter River and floodplain, the Main North Rail Line, and the New England Highway.

Based in Newcastle, the role will be supported by a Delivery Director and a Deputy Project Director working in partnership with our delivery contractors. You will be responsible for overseeing all facets of the project including resolution of complex project issues and challenges, while ensuring robust community and stakeholder engagement. This role requires management of competing pressures between project scope, performance, cost, program, quality and risk, while meeting stakeholder expectations and longer-term community needs in an environment of intense public scrutiny.

As we journey into the future and are looking to build a diverse workforce, flexible work environment where differences are valued will be a key attribute to the success of the project. This role offers the option to consider a combination of working from home and working from Newcastle.

This is a full-time fixed term until March 2028, Transport Senior Service TSSE1B level role offering an attractive remuneration package.
