Project Director, Temporary (up to December 2026), Sydney

This rare and exciting opportunity is a Senior Executive Band 2 role, with a total remuneration package starting at $293,395 commensurate with experience.

About the role

Do you have the passion and expertise to lead and drive transformative projects from inception to completion? Join us at Infrastructure New South Wales (INSW) as a Project Director and be at the forefront of delivering crucial infrastructure projects. Your instrumental contributions will include overseeing the development and delivery of key projects, including Penrith Stadium, which play a significant role in shaping the future of our communities.

As the Project Director, you will be responsible for the comprehensive oversight of projects, from their initial development through to construction to the seamless commencement of services. Your role will encompass effective management of senior relationships, personnel, and contracts, ensuring the secure delivery of top-quality infrastructure and buildings that adhere to strict standards of quality, budget, and scheduling, while simultaneously meeting the expectations of the NSW Government, key stakeholders, and the community. Moreover, you will hold a senior leadership position within INSW, actively contributing to our positive organisational culture.

Some of the key accountabilities for the role include:

  • Leading the planning, procurement and delivery of projects, establishing and driving a common project management, governance, risk, project finance and reporting system framework in line with government and INSW requirements.
  • Leading the implementation of processes to secure all planning approvals required for projects, and ensure ongoing compliance with, and high performance in relation to, all sustainability, environmental and planning requirements for projects.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to develop and maintain strong partnerships, ensuring planned delivery of projects to achieve continuous improvement in outcomes in accordance with agreements, consents, and other statutory requirements.
  • Driving the application of appropriate risk management frameworks to mitigate and manage risks to project delivery.

About You

The ideal candidate should have relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a similar senior capacity. Also, demonstrated success in translating ambitious visions into concrete achievements within the domain of infrastructure delivery. Experience in significant stadium projects would be well regarded.

Exceptional leadership abilities are crucial, enabling the guidance and empowerment of teams to successfully deliver outcomes, overcoming obstacles. Proficiency in effective communication is a must, with the ability to create engaging narratives and foster seamless collaboration with stakeholders of diverse backgrounds. Furthermore, expertise in financial management, including budgeting, risk assessment, and contract negotiation, is vital. The role also demands a strategic thinker who can proactively navigate challenges and seize opportunities in a constantly evolving environment.

Although, our corporate office is conveniently located near Wynyard station, this role will spend a substantial amount of time at the project site.
