Cairns and Hinterland Hospital Health Service provides high-level health care, well-being, research, and education in Far North Queensland. It is the main provider of health services for a large region which includes Cairns, Tablelands, and Cassowary Coast regions with a population of over 250,000 people, plus provides specialist services to the Torres Strait and Cape York Regions. Cairns Hospital is also the main referral hospital for Far North Queensland.
The HHS plays a central part in the community and services more than 30 regional, rural, and remote facilities over an area of almost 150,000 square kilometers. They are proud of the fact that they are 95% self-sufficient with only a very small number of particularly acute services being referred to Townsville or Brisbane.
About the Role
The ieMR (integrated electronic Medical Record) is a strategic investment to improve patient care, underpinning the broader Queensland digital health agenda. The Project Director is a newly created position that will take ultimate accountability for the successful project delivery of a new ieMR which will both upgrade existing technology and introduce technology to replace paper-based medical records. The project has full executive and Department of Health support.
In addition to the introduction of the ieMR, there will need to be some upgrades to existing infrastructure. Other areas under your remit will include:
- Build and develop the appropriate resources to complete the project on time and on budget.
- Work with key stakeholders such as eHealth Queensland, Department of Health and CHHHS’s clinical, technical and business teams to ensure they are aligned with project goals and deadlines.
- Undertake risk and issue identification including project variances and escalating where appropriate and necessary.
- Implement and manage an appropriate an agreed project management methodology (probably Prince 2 or Agile).
- Consult, respond and report to stakeholders, the Project Control Group and Executives through a project communication plan to maintain effective relationships with and between key internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor and report on the progress of the project to key stakeholders.
To be successful in this role you should be an experienced Project Lead with expertise in managing large (at least $10 million) budgets and transformative projects that impact thousands of staff. You will also be comfortable leading a multi-disciplinary team (more than 30 staff) as this project will require critical assistance from your team of clinicians, IT and business personnel as well as other project staff. Your experience will be from the B2C sector as this project is ultimately a customer centric project, and while healthcare experience will be highly regarded it is not essential to be considered. Other attributes that will make this candidate successful is a focus on outcomes, strong communication and stakeholder skills and a strong bias to timely and accurate reporting. This role is based in Cairns and a relocation package will be considered for appropriate candidates.
