About the role
The Project Engineer is responsible for managing project orders in the Power Electronics (PE) group and ensuring completion within the agreed time frame and budget, as well as carrying out application engineering functions. This is achieved through direct project co-ordination activity; interaction with suppliers, customers and other TIC departments; and providing technical support to other TIC departments customers.
This role also carries out application engineering functions and project contract supervision/management.
Key Responsibilities
- Completion of project coordination activities within the agreed timeframe and set budgetary costs, to the satisfaction of the customer and within TIC quality standards.
- Conduct engineering work to verify product and equipment are selected and applied correctly. Carry out calculations and prepare reports to demonstrate compliance to various standards and specifications, using in-house tools and templates.
- Stay up to date with relevant standards including AS 3000, AS 61800, IEC 60146, AS 61439 & AS 60947 to name a few
- Compile the overall parts requirements, co-ordinate order placements with suppliers and follow-up where necessary to ensure on-time delivery.
- Resolve any technical issues related to the projects among suppliers, customers and TIC branches.
- Ensure that drawings and documentation are as per project requirements.
- Act as the Technical expert for various PE products, providing expertise, advice and training to customers and TIC staff as required, whether remotely or in-person; individually or to a group or people.
- Provide training to customers and TIC staff as and when required.
- Help customers on technical matters related to the projects.
- Act as back-up technical support for PE products.
- Develop and make professional product presentations, as required.
- Provide application engineering training and know-how required for product area
- Assist with commissioning, testing and after sales service as required
- Assist the Product Manager - PE with product management issues.
- Perform / contribute to conceptual planning, design and delivery of applications related to PE products, and participate in design reviews.
- Participate in the development of hazard design analysis and hazard operation analysis
- Ensure that design work and quality planning is in accordance with Australian Standards and with the TIC Quality Assurance system.
- Conduct acceptance/rejection testing of Engineered Systems
- Preparation of detail designs and procurement specifications
- Assist the sales department by providing input into bids & tender responses as a subject-matter and technical expert.
- Preparation of technical specifications, tender documents, technical content of estimates and quotations
- Prepare detailed proposed bids and assist with project costing.
- Assist sales group with negotiations of prospective sales by provision of support on technical matters.
Our ideal candidate will possess -
- Engineering qualifications appropriate to requirements of particular product area (University degree or where appropriate Advanced Certificate)
- Demonstrated experience or knowledge of equivalent product area
- Extensive experience in reviewing tender documents and preparing tenders to sell industrial electrical products
- Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge in given product area.
- Experience relating to consulting engineers and end-user engineers
- Experience liaising and negotiating with suppliers
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to work with people all at levels.
- Demonstrated ability to grasp technical concepts quickly, research relevant technical data and come up with recommendations.
- Ability to concurrently manage a number of jobs, effectively manage priorities in the workload, work under pressure when required and meet deadlines.
- Good experience using MS Office.
- Experience using CAD systems is preferred, but not a required criterion. e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks etc.
