The Role and our Branch

The Schools branch is seeking to appoint a highly engaging and motivated Project Principal - Regional Learning Initiatives.

The Western Australian Department of Education has entered into an agreement with the Australian Government Department of Education, to develop and deliver the Scaling Up Success in Remote Schools Program. Through this program, the Regional Learning Initiative will work to expand the successful elements of the Kimberley Schools Project to selected schools in the Goldfields and Midwest Education Regions.

The project has 2 key components, targeted teaching and student and community engagement.

The successful applicant will have a sound understanding of evidence-based practice and the Quality Teaching Strategy, provide educational leadership to schools and regional networks in the development and implementation of strategies and professional support materials which are informed by school, system data evidence and result in improved student achievement. It will be the Project Principals responsibility to plan, implement and evaluate initiatives and strategies supporting the 2 key project components.

Within this role, the successful applicant will lead the operations of the project in accordance with the strategic directions of the project, legislation and Department policies, in line with the project implementation plan which outlines agreed outcomes with the Australian Department of Education. In addition, the successful applicant will collaborate and liaise with project partners, the project governance groups, other government agencies, community providers and schools, on matters associated with the project.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
  • obtain or hold a current C class licence
  • obtain or hold an accredited 4WD qualification
  • undertake extended overnight travel throughout the region, including travel to remote school sites
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy.
