Projects Manager - Fabrication, Welding, and Coatings

Overview:

MMC Australia Pty Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Manager to oversee workshop-based fabrication, welding, and Coatings projects, specifically for AS/NZS 5131 CC2 and CC3 classifications within the marine and mining sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the projects, ensuring high-quality standards and compliance with industry regulations, while maintaining efficiency and profitability. The role also requires regular travel to and from the Northern Territory due to MMC having facilities in both Adelaide and Darwin.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning and Execution:
    • Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets for workshop fabrication, welding, and Coatings projects.
    • Coordinate with the production team to ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Monitor and control project progress, making adjustments as necessary to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all projects comply with AS/NZS 5131 CC2 and CC3 standards.
    • Implement and maintain rigorous quality control procedures.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify the quality of work.
  • Resource Management:
    • Allocate and manage resources, including manpower, materials, and equipment.
    • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
    • Optimize workshop operations to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Client Liaison:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on project status.
    • Address client concerns and ensure their requirements and specifications are met.
    • Build and maintain strong client relationships to secure repeat business and referrals.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
    • Promote a culture of safety within the workshop.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Implement and monitor safety protocols and conduct regular safety meetings.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, change orders, and final project deliverables.
    • Prepare and present project reports to senior management and clients.
    • Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping for all project-related activities.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Regular travel to and from the Northern Territory to coordinate and manage projects between MMC's Adelaide and Darwin facilities.
    • Ensure seamless communication and coordination between the two locations.
    • Conduct inspections and meetings at both facilities as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Either an Engineering Trade background, Or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management within the fabrication, welding, and/or coatings industry.
  • Proven experience managing projects to AS/NZS 5131 CC2 and CC3 standards.
  • Strong knowledge of marine and mining sector requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly between Adelaide and Darwin.
