Location Profile

SCHOOL PROFILE

Berwick Primary School is located in the southeastern suburbs approximately 45 kms from the CBD. The school has a student enrolment that is currently at 948.

Berwick Primary school is the oldest school in the Berwick area, opening its doors to pupils in the 1800s. The school relocated to a new site in October 2003, and it offers facilities that greatly enhance learning for our students.

The school has an excellent team of teachers and support staff, who combine youth with experience to offer a variety of talents that complement the school's diverse program that includes extensive emphasis on the arts and physical education. We work to positively influence students so that they develop a desire to learn and achieve personal success across a wide range of areas whilst supporting their social and emotional well-being. At Berwick Primary School all students learn Spanish. We believe that languages play an important role in developing our students¿ capability to understand themselves in relation to others.

Many varied opportunities are available to students in the areas of the arts, physical education and information and communication technology.  A 1:1 ipad program runs in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 with class sets in Prep to grade 2. This technology has facilitated deeper learning in many curriculum areas.

The school is an authorised World School in the International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme. We work to develop individual learner profiles that demonstrate international mindedness by implementing an inquiry-based program that encourages students to be curious and to take control of their own learning. Developing intercultural understanding and global citizenship are features of the Australian curriculum and at the forefront of planning at Berwick Primary, where we plan to ensure that we develop learners with the values and attributes required to be productive, responsible and caring world community members. We are very excited about our journey and its impact on the learning of each of our students.

VISION

Learning is a journey where along the way we commit to excellence and the development of principled, compassionate, lifelong learners who demonstrate intercultural understanding and respect.

MISSION

Relationships:

At Berwick Primary School we believe that building strong relationships is the key to unlocking a life- long love of learning in our students. The best learning occurs when there is a respectful relationship between the child, parent and the school.

Learning how to establish positive and tolerant relationships with members of the broader community is vital to the development of well-rounded citizens.

Strength of Character:

To be a successful learner we believe that our students must demonstrate their courage and their confidence to meet life's physical and moral challenges.

To do this, we provide opportunities for our students to develop the confidence to ask questions, solve problems, think differently and act independently.

Engagement in Learning:

At the core of school operation is our belief in the value of learning. Our students are encouraged to become active and inquiring learners of not only the `what' but the `how' and `why'.

At our school we strive to provide a wide range of authentic learning experiences so that the skills and knowledge gained can be used in other contexts, making our students better prepared for active participation in the global community.

Engagement in Life:

We believe that students can reach their full educational potential only when they are socially and emotionally secure, and when there is a positive school culture to support them in their learning.

We aim to develop students who are resilient and persevere to work through tough situations to become socially and environmentally conscious citizens.
