STAFF SPECIALIST (CONSULTANT) – PSYCHIATRY – CHILD AND ADOLESCENT | COASTAL QUEENSLAND
 
Our clients based just a stone’s throw away from the Great Barrier Reef are looking for a Psychiatrist Child Youth & Adolescent - Staff Specialist to join their Mental Health team on a Permanent Full-Time basis.

The Position:

The Hospital is a state-of-the-art hospital in a sunny coastal location only an hour and 20 minutes flight from Brisbane. The Hospital and Health Service is looking for Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent

The Psychiatrist (Specialist Child, Youth and Adolescent) provides specialist psychiatry services in the area of Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Work within a multi-disciplinary community and hospital-based Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team.
As a Medical Expert you are responsible for:

  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Hospital and Health Service pledges outlined above.
  • To comply with the obligation to act and make decisions in a way that is compatible with human rights and, when making a decision, to give proper consideration to human rights as required by the Human Rights Act 2019.
  • Fulfil the role within a defined credentialed scope of clinical practice
  • This position reports to the Clinical Director Mental Health
  • Provide specialist Mental Health Services to young people aged 0-18 years (and their families) with moderate to severe Mental Health problems, within a multi-disciplinary team and accepted professional standards
  • Undertake clinical responsibilities providing high-quality patient care in the speciality of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, liaising with other clinical units and referring hospitals, specialists and GP’s, including maintenance of accurate and contemporaneous documentation
  • Undertake comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment that ensures best practice clinical interventions are provided by the service to consumers and their relatives and carers
  • Provide expert services, including new and review assessments, outpatient sessions, in reach services and clinical rounds and participate in after-hours on call and weekend roster.

 The Hospital

The Hospital is a 236-bed regional hospital that services 10 rural hospitals and multi-purpose health facilities across the region. The health service is embarking on an exciting period of growth with a $250m redevelopment of the base hospital to provide an additional 112 inpatient beds and an expansion of outpatient and support services. Significant upgrades are also underway at rural hospitals in the region.  Clinicians working at the hospital enjoy a challenging and rewarding clinical casemix that includes busy inpatient and outpatient general medicine, paediatrics, surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology and Mental Health Services. These core inpatient services are well integrated with active emergency medicine, anaesthetic and intensive care departments and supported by a wide range of allied Health Services. Specialty services are provided by tertiary hospitals in Townsville and Brisbane, including a strong undergraduate teaching affiliation with James Cook University.

The Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs Service comprises an acute Mental Health inpatient facility with 24 beds and a Step-Up Step-Down Unit with 6 beds. Community Mental Health Services include an Acute Care Service, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Continuing Care Team, Mobile Intensive Rehabilitation Team, Early Psychosis, Child and Youth Mental Health, Older Persons Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs Service. In addition to the Community Child and Youth Mental Health Service we have an Assertive Mobile Youth Outreach Service which forms part of an integrated continuum of care for adolescents requiring Mental Health treatment. The Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) in the hospital have two designated Mental Health beds for crisis intervention cases and links with the Townsville Adolescent Unit in the case of prolonged admissions.
