Job description

Seeking a part time/contractor Psychologist or Counsellor for our private practice in Canberra

Are you a dedicated therapist seeking the advantages of a collaborative private practice, but wish to avoid the impersonal, clinical atmosphere that sometimes can come with it? If you're searching for a space where professionalism meets a warm and casual office vibe that allows you to maintain your independence and continue growing as a practitioner - we've got an opportuntity that is perfect for you!

Evo Psychology are seeking a client-centered, warm and progressive therapist to join our passionate and warm existing team.

Part-time or contractor position available - ideally 10-32 hours per week.

The ideal candidate will be aligned with Evo Psychology's values - we are informed, affirming, and respectful of those who are neurodivergent (or self identify as such). We are kink and poly-friendly, LGBTQIA+ inclusive, culturally aware and sensitive, and sex work positive.

About our practice:

Evo Psychology is a private practice based in Canberra's South (Woden/Phillip area). We provide services for adults, couples, and run a weekly Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills Training Group.

At Evo Psychology, we work with a wide range of presentations however do have a particular focus on people who have experienced trauma, who struggle with emotional regulation, and those who have issues/questions relating to sexuality and/or gender. We frequently work with individuals who have been diagnosed or self identify as neurodivergent - including but not limited to clients who are Autistic, ADHDers, AuDHDers, those who have Sensory Processing Disorders, or who feel ‘different’ in some way.

At Evo Psychology, we are proudly neurodiversity affirming, queer friendly, trauma informed, culturally aware and celebrate all other kinds of differences. We cater to the needs of our clients as individuals, in a holistic and evidence-based way, and support each other to continue professional learning in areas of interest.

Given the success of our DBT Skills Group program, we are open to creating further group programs/workshops, and invite prospective and current practitioners working at the practice to collaborate and engage in these opportunities should you wish to develop skills in program development and group therapy.

About the role:

Evo Psychology is excited to be ready to welcome a new therapist into our team! A part-time or contractor role can be offered, and this will be further discussed with shortlisted applicants.

What a day looks like for our clinical team members:

Imagine starting your day walking into an office where the atmosphere is as warm and welcoming as a friend's living room, yet equipped with the resources and support you need to provide exceptional care. Your schedule is self-managed, allowing you to focus on your clients without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Between sessions, you'll join colleagues for a coffee break in our cozy common area (or join in on “floor lunch”), sharing insights or having a quick debrief. Our team values open communication, continuous learning, and celebrates diversity in all its forms, making every day an opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. Here, you'll not just work; you'll thrive in a setting that values your well-being as much as your expertise.

The awesome stuff you'll get as part of our team:

  • A workplace culture that encourages and facilitates balance and self care (we focus on work-life balance and team culture so we can continue providing excellent care to our clients!)
  • Flexibility with work hours.
  • Autonomy over your own bookings and client population - with support from our administration assistant/reception.
  • Being part of an organisation that listens to your feedback, encourages innovative ideas, and aims to assist you in thriving as a practitioner in the areas of interest you have.
  • Spend less time doing administrative tasks - we use technology and automation to streamline administrative tasks, from secure digital filing to efficient appointment management (as well as lots of support from our superstar admiistration assistant/receptionist). This approach minimises paperwork, allowing our clinicians to focus on providing excellent client care. Spend time focussing on what you got into this industry to do!!
  • Generous remuneration ($60-$100 per hour - depending on experience, qualifications and employment vs contractor role).
  • Convenient location with free staff parking.
  • Supportive work environment - there are currently two part time psychologists, one part-time counsellor, and a part-time on-site administrative assistant/receptionist.
  • Ability to work from home via telehealth, as clinically appropriate.
  • Existing referral networks and diversity of client population.
  • Ability to individualise the therapy room to suit your style and preferences.
  • Possibility to become a full-time role - depending on work demand and interest of the prospective therapist.
  • Ability to be a part of the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills Group training program we facilitate, depending on your interest.

Essential criteria:

  • Qualification/s in Psychology, or Counselling.
  • Current Professional Indemnity Insurance (or willingness and ability to obtain).
  • Currently registered with AHPRA or current membership with relevant professional peak body or organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Highly desirable:

  • Has completed professional development or training in the areas of sexual health, gender issues/affirmation process, trauma, and/or sexuality (or an interest in pursuing development in these areas).
  • Current registration as a Medicare provider (or willingness and ability to obtain).
  • Experience providing evidence-based therapy for adults and/or couples in the public or private health care system.

Special projects and group sessions:

We currently run two in-person 12-week DBT Skills Groups. We are open to team member feedback and ideas about developing and running other types of groups and programs. We see this as a way that our team members can continue growing as therapists (career progression and ongoing development), spend time on subjects that interest them, as well as complementing and diversifying the work from being solely individual clinical work.
