Job description

This is for a Fixed Term Part Time appointment until 18 April 2025 at 30.4 hours per fortnight with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency. Applicants must meet all essential selection criteria listed on page 5 of the job description attachment.

About this role

This position assists in identifying Public Health nutrition priorities for the north metropolitan population and coordinates the planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions to address these; works collaboratively with team members, other health professionals and key stakeholders and builds capacity to develop solutions to nutrition issues.

This position reports to the Manager Health Promotion.

Area Profile

NMHS provides timely access to high quality health care, embracing acknowledged best practice to deliver improved clinical outcomes in the face of rising challenges for all healthcare providers. The NMHS comprises a mix of tertiary, specialist and generalist hospitals.  Our north metropolitan catchment area covers almost 1000 square kilometres. The Health Promotion Service works across the NMHS catchment area and aims to keep the population healthy by preventing chronic disease (e.g. cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, respiratory disease and some cancers) and injury.

The service has a population-wide approach focusing on the lifestyle risk factors causing the greatest burden of disease:

  • tobacco smoking
  • poor diet 
  • overweight and obesity
  • physical inactivity
  • harmful levels of alcohol use

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
