Council will introduce Public Space Safety Officers who will undertake patrols to address antisocial behaviour at known hotspots in the suburbs.
You will take an active role in addressing issues such as cleanliness or damage and will also undertake regular patrols of emerging hotspots to monitor and report suspicious activity.
Known and emerging antisocial behaviour hotspots will be monitored, with a focus on deterring anti-social behaviour, public drinking and reducing graffiti and vandalism in Public Spaces.
Primary Objectives of the position:
- To undertake regular patrols of Public Spaces, recreational facilities, and Council facilities to ensure locations remain safe and welcoming for community users with positive intentions
- To identify instances of anti-social, illegal, or other undesirable behaviours and take appropriate action to get such behaviours disrupted and remedied
- To respond to calls for service from Council management for protection of assets that have been targeted or are hot spot locations for break ins, damage, or vandalism
- In conjunction with Council’s community resilience team initiatives, assist with site visits to identify homeless or vulnerable persons to ensure they are given opportunity and assistance to access support networks
- To build community perception of safety in Public Spaces and enhance Councils reputation as contributing to peaceful amenity for residents, visitors, and business
To be successful in this role you must have:
- Current C class driver’s licence
- Demonstrated experience in policing, security, community safety or a related field
- Knowledge (or the ability to rapidly acquire) of local government legislation and local laws including those relating to key duties and responsibilities
- Ability to understand and assess risks associated with the unpredictability of human behaviour
- Ability to relate in a courteous and diplomatic manner, particularly in dispute situations
- High level of communication skills, including face to face negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively, independently and as part of a team
