The Opportunity
Join our team in Natural Assets and play a crucial role in enhancing the beauty and functionality of Public Spaces within the Hinchinbrook Shire! As the Team Leader of the Public Spaces, you'll be tasked with developing, maintaining, and elevating the appeal of designated public areas, aligned with the priorities set out in our Public Spaces Service Standards.
To be successful, you will demonstrate personal attributes that are consistent with Councils values of Integrity, People Focused, Excellence and Sustainability and you will possess the following:
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide effective leadership to the Public Spaces team in a public-facing operational environment;
- Demonstrated experience in landscaping, construction and maintenance of Public Spaces (parks and gardens);
- Demonstrated success in liaising with members of the public and community organisations, including a well-developed use of diplomacy, negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
- Proven ability to successfully manage competing priorities with limited resources, while project managing construction and maintenance schedules in an unpredictable environment;
- Working knowledge of the legislative standards and procedures required for the use of herbicides, fertilisers and chemicals, as well as safety auditing of infrastructure including furniture and playground equipment;
- Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise, negotiate with and transfer knowledge to a wide range of people and stakeholders; and
- Well-developed computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office products and other computer systems used by Council.
- Current Queensland ‘C’ Class license (mandatory);
- Recognised qualifications in Horticulture, Arboriculture, Landscape Management, or a related field (desirable); and
- Relevant experience/ qualifications in management (desirable).

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Pre-employment screening includes Medicals, Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Criminal History Checks to ensure capability to perform the inherent requirements of the role.
Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities. The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
