About the role:

The purpose of the Rail Maintenance Specialist position is to ensure efficient, reliable and cost-effective management of rotable spare parts, major components, and maintenance activities for Loram’s fleet of maintenance machinery. This role plays a vital role in maintaining the operational readiness, safety, and cost-effectiveness of our machinery by fostering strong relationships with service providers and ensuring accurate inventory management. Additionally, the Rail Maintenance Specialist will develop and document standardised procedures relating to rotable parts management to enhance repair consistency and overall performance. The position serves as a key contributor to our organisation's commitment to delivering high machine reliability and customer service while continuously improving our processes and procedures.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Timely Repairs: Ensure the timely repair and maintenance of rotable spares and major components to maintain the operational readiness of our fleet of Loram maintenance machinery.
  • Standardisation of Repairs: Implement and maintain standardised repair processes for the above-mentioned components, enhancing efficiency and consistency.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Develop plans and schedules for the utilisation of shared rotable parts, optimising their allocation across the maintenance machinery fleet.
  • Service Provider Relationships: Build and nurture strong relationships with service providers, facilitating economic and timely repairs and overhauls of major components.
  • Performance Improvement: Investigate and identify opportunities to improve the overall performance, safety, and cost-effectiveness of major maintenance activities on Loram maintenance machinery.
  • Training and Oversight: Train and oversee the execution of enhanced maintenance procedures for major maintenance activities, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Inventory Accuracy: Maintain the accuracy of inventory transactions within the IFS, the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring precise tracking of rotable parts.
  • Develop and Document Procedures: Develop and document comprehensive procedures and guidelines related to rotable parts management, ensuring clarity and standardisation in the process.
  • Repair Parts Holdings: Regularly review and assess repair parts holdings for major components.
  • Procurement Coordination: Collaborate with the procurement team to prevent duplication of rotable spares and ensure that current holdings are sufficient to support the Loram maintenance machinery fleet.
  • Inventory Spares: Monitoring and maintaining the health of spare parts in inventory.

About you:

Along with your commitment to excellence in all facets of learning and development, you will also have:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certificate or equivalent.
  • 3 years experience in maintenance and rotable spare parts management, ideally in heavy machinery.
  • Proficiency in maintenance processes, repair procedures, and inventory management, particularly in Rail Rectification Consist spare parts.

  • Experience in planning and scheduling maintenance activities, including shared rotable parts utilization.
  • Strong problem-solving and data analysis abilities.
  • Knowledge of CMMS and accurate inventory transactions
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.

The location of this role will be 15/85 field/flexible office location but this may change depending on operational requirements.
