We are currently looking to appoint passionate Rail Safety Officers to support the Northern site locations of the SSTOM project.

The Rail Safety Officer will coordinate and manage all delivery aspects of Rail Safety on the SSTOM project as per Deed and Legislative requirements.
You will also assist the Senior Rail Safety Officer, HSEQ Director, responsible manager(s) and the Risk Manager to identify, assess, evaluate and control Rail Safety risks.
This role will be based at either St Marys, Orchard Hills or Luddenham.
Responsibilities:
- Manages the compliance obligations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, National Rail Safety Legislation, and associated legislative requirements.
- Provide direction, instruction and assistance to all project personnel employed across the project on a functional basis in relation to best practice, process, and procedure.
- Stops the progress of the relevant part of the Project Works where health or safety is being or may be compromised.
- Develops, maintain and upgrade as required the WHS Management Plan and Safety and supports the Rail Safety assurance management team with Rail Safety Manager providing assurance for compliance with OSH, WHS and Rail Safety legislation.
- Assists, advising and supporting senior management in WHS policy procedures, legislation and training requirements including Rail Safety requirements.
- Monitors compliance with the Rail Safety and health and safety management systems
- Ensures supervisory personnel are trained in their Rail Safety requirements and ensuring consultation arrangements have been established with employees.
- Reports notifiable occurrences to the respective stakeholders and reviews notifiable occurrences to ensure actions has been taken to prevent recurrence.
- Leads investigations for all extreme risk incidents, injuries and hazards and provide functional assistance and recommendations for the development of appropriate preventative actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Reports to SSTOM Management on the performance of the project Rail Safety system for project reviews.
- Educate Line Managers and subcontractors in the project Policies and Procedures
- Provide leadership to our personnel to achieve no harm or injury on culture in the workplace.
- Establish and maintain strong positive relationship with project and operational managers to ensure engagement and support of the SSTOM project goals and objectives.
- Develop & cultivate relationships with clients ensuring compliance with both client and company requirements.
- Ensure that all statutory Rail Safety requirements, engineering standards and construction procedures are complied with.
- Ensure all activities are carried out with due regard to safe working practice, safety of personnel and the integrity of the equipment.
- Ensure that the work is being executed in accordance with internal requirements and the client’s Rail Safety and quality specifications and instructions.
- Oversee the development of Rail Safety hazard identification plans, risk analysis, corporate and site-specific safety plans.
- Assist with the collection, preparation, analysis and issue of company Rail Safety statistics and performance data and implement strategies to achieve continual improvement.
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, WHS, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- First Aid & CPR (desirable)
- Proven experience as a Health and Safety Advisor, Coordinator or Rail Safety Officer in the construction industry, preferably within a Tier 1 Contractor organisation.
- Minimum 1+ years working on a rail project.
- A comprehensive understanding of Rail Safety systems and programs as well as risk management principles.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant Rail Safety and health & safety legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, Rail Safety, hazards, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive incident investigations and produce detailed reports with actionable recommendations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
