The business has experienced significant growth over the last decade and has an exciting opportunity for an experienced RAM (Reliability, Availability & Maintainability) Engineer to join their team and work out of their Perth office.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will assist in leading a team of Engineers, providing guidance and ensuring the integrity, compliance, and effectiveness of the technical and design solutions within the Defence Shipbuilding design project. Responsible for all aspects of RAM design and analysis. The RAM Engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholder and regulatory bodies to deliver solutions that meet operational requirements, adhere to industry standards and align with project objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide expert guidance on RAM analyses, system engineering design and integration activities.
- Examine customer requirements and lead the development, design and integration activities ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and technical requirements.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate design risks to safeguard project timelines, budget, and quality objectives.
- Structure, initiate and manage Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Failure Modes Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and other suitable techniques.
- Carry out predictive analysis procedures to identify when and how failures might occur.
- Guide the organisations on managing assets to ensure longevity and continual performance in compliance with client specifications.
- Reduce costs associated with asset downtime by ensuring organisations have an excellent life cycle asset management plan from design and acquisition to maintenance and disposal.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks that can affect asset reliability.
- Work closely with other teams, such as maintenance, operations, and design, to ensure seamless asset management and reliability.
- Provide root cause analysis techniques where required and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in developing Maintenance Strategies.
- Establish and maintain design assurance processes, procedures, and standards to uphold the quality and reliability of deliverables throughout the design lifecycle.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of design decisions, rationale, and specifications to facilitate traceability, transparency, and knowledge transfer.
- Drive innovation and efficiency initiatives to optimize design processes, enhance productivity, and achieve project objectives more effectively.
- Provide design and progress reports as required by project governance.
- Mentoring Junior members of the team and developing engineers.
- Manage Defence client interfaces and client relationships.
- Promote a collaborative environment and visible mentorship within the team setting the standard.
- Relevant Tertiary Qualifications is desirable
- Professional certifications or memberships in relevant professional bodies (e.g., Chartered Engineer status, membership in the Royal Institution of Naval Architects) preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant experience working within a complex project environment, within Maritime, Shipbuilding or Defence
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and best practices governing naval vessel design and construction
- Understanding of military and government project documentation standards is desirable
- Highly articulate with excellent attention to detail
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with experience in building trusted & valued relationships with team members & customers
- A high level of organisational and time management skills
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, identify work priorities in a constantly changing environment
- Advance Computer skills using Microsoft Office software
- Familiarity with design software and simulation tools commonly used in shipbuilding environments
