The Role
Lumino Shearer Dental currently on the lookout for a casual Dental Assistant / Receptionist to join the team!
Shearer Dental is located right in the town centre of Oamaru. Our practice is operated by Dr Nick Shearer, who took over the practice from his father in 1989. Nick has been treating patients in the North Otago region for 30 years.
Our practice has both loyal hard-working staff and many loyal long-term patients. Our experienced dental team enjoy educating patients on the importance of regular visits to the dentist and hygienist. Our patients enjoy seeing the same staff, hygienist and dentist over the many years they attend.
As one of our Receptionists, you will be the friendly face our patients see when they enter our doors and the voice they hear when they call our practice. A typical day will see you assisting our patients with enquiries, generating and confirming appointment booking, payment processing, banking, and other ad hoc administrative duties.
As one of our Dental Assistants, you will work alongside our highly trained clinicians and other dental professionals to provide excellent patient care and support. You will be tasked with supporting our clinicians during various dental procedures and ensuring best practice standards are upheld and the best patient care is provided. You will also take control of tasks such as sterilisation and infection control, ensuring all instruments and equipment are processed and sterilised following best practice guidelines.
This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You will be someone who enjoys working closely within a team and providing upstanding customer service.
Practice opening hours:
- Tuesday: 7.00 am - 4.30pm
- Wednesday: 8.00am - 5.30pm
- Thursday: 7.00am - 4.30pm

The Location

Responsibilities
- Greet patients in person and over the phone in a friendly and professional manner
- Respond to patient emails and queries
- Process payments and book appointments
- Assist Clinicians during dental procedures
- Prepare treatment rooms and instruments for use
The Person
- Previous experience as a receptionist or in a customer-facing role
- Previous experience as a Dental Assistant is preferred, but not required
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Proficiency in using computer software applications.
