Job description

Who we are

Jawun is a not‐for‐profit organisation that uses the capabilities of corporate, government and philanthropic Australia to support programs of change in Indigenous communities. Guided by the strategies and priorities of Indigenous leaders and communities, Jawun seeks to foster long term partnerships that build sustainable capacity in Indigenous organisations and communities.

Jawun began facilitating partnerships between corporate and Indigenous Australia in Cape York in 2001. Led in the Cape by Noel Pearson’s agenda to break down the destructive passive welfare economy, Jawun has developed ways to support Indigenous peoples’ participation in the real economy. Through skilled people from our corporate and government partners, Jawun is a key supporter in the delivery of programs that foster self‐ reliance, entrepreneurial activity and business planning amongst Indigenous people.

The Jawun model is transferable and today we work with remote communities in Cape York Peninsula (QLD), the Pilbara, East and West Kimberley (WA), Central Australia (NT, WA, SA) and Northeast Arnhem Land (NT), regional communities of Goulburn-Murray (VIC), Central Coast (NSW), Lower River Murray and Far West Coast (SA), the urban communities of Inner Sydney (NSW) and South West Australia (WA). Jawun draws upon the best and brightest secondee resources from over 30 corporate and government partners in pursuit of Indigenous led change.

You will be aligned to and able to advocate for the regional reform/change agendas led by community. Core to your role will be the following:

• maintaining strong relationships with Indigenous partner organisations and leaders

• delivery of impactful secondments of talented people from corporate and government partner organisations into the region that support and accelerate Indigenous organisational and regional priorities

• help to scope and prioritise Indigenous partner organisation and community objectives

• produce timely, high-quality data and impact reporting

• engage with corporate and government partners who focus support to the region

• execution of the Regional Partnership Strategy.

The successful candidate will have:

• a background in community development, investment brokerage and/or experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders in a senior capacity

• leadership experience - confidence, charisma, credibility and ability to lead a group

• the ability to engage, build strong relationships and rapport with a variety of stakeholders (from Indigenous leaders to secondees to capability partners) and work with a wide range of personal styles

• excellent communication skills both written and oral, including high quality reporting and report writing

• an appreciation for the importance of safety, and the ability to prioritise and apply safety standards and policies. This includes the administrative requirements that go hand-in-hand with this critical part of the role.

• deep listening skills and the ability to make strategic linkages and connections

• able to lean in to help resolve the occasional conflict or difficult situation

• proven experience working autonomously and within a team, including effective prioritisation of work in a defined working rhythm.

Salary range $110 - $130k including superannuation and additional tax benefits such as laptop, internet and up to $15,900 salary sacrifice (equivalent to approximately $9,338 in additional salary income) is on offer dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
