About the Role:
Tronox is recruiting for an inspirational Director of Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) for the Australian region. This is a permanent position, reporting directly to the global Vice President of SHEQ. This senior role forms part of the Australian regional management team and is accountable for regional SHEQ advice and providing oversight of regional SHEQ activities across our ten operating Sites.
The Director of SHEQ is accountable for enhancing the capacity of our people, processes and plant so that risk is sustainably reduced, stakeholder expectations are exceeded and so that more things go well for our teams in the work place. To achieve these outcomes a strategic approach to SHEQ management will need to be applied focused on how work is guided, enabled and executed.
The position can be based at any of our Western Australian Sites in Kwinana (south of Perth), Muchea (north of Perth) or Bunbury (South-West WA). There is expectation of travel to all WA facilities, as well as semi-regular travel to Tronox’s operations in NSW. As part of a global team, connection and collaboration is required, which necessitates calls outside of typical working hours.
Core duties will include:
- Leading and inspiring the Australian organisation to deliver Safe, Quality, Low Cost, Sustainable Tonnes
- Shaping and implementing programs for Sustainability, Quality, OH&S, PSM, Risk and Insurance; aligning global, regional and site practices
- Embedding processes for leaders to: understand work, identify future operational scenarios, assess threats and understand the organization’s vulnerabilities
- Influencing investment in operational capacity and SHE risk reduction based on weak signals; while managing regional SHEQ budgets
- Leading change, ensuring organisational learning and delivery of sustainable improvement actions
- Accountability for governance and assurance processes so that legal, regulatory compliance and stakeholder expectations are exceeded
- Overseeing the continued professional and personal development of the Australian SHEQ team
- Partnering with our contractors and service providers, facilitating the flow of information to reduce goal conflict and mitigate risk
About you:
To be successful in your application:
- You will need to demonstrate experience in the successful management of SHE activities, strategy and governance across multiple sites in a similarly complex work environment
- You will possess interpersonal skills to influence and coach at a senior level and can demonstrate a collaborative and constructive approach
- You can highlight experience working with and influencing a broad range of stakeholder groups (e.g. business functions, regulators, community, indigenous groups, contractors, industry etc.)
- You will be curious and have a desire to understand ‘work as done’ and be comfortable directly supporting our operations teams
- You will need to possess a tertiary level qualification such as a Bachelor’s Degree or higher and can demonstrate the effective application of contemporary safety science to drive improvement
- You will understand the fundamentals of risk management and it’s effective application in a major hazard environment
- You will possess outstanding business acumen and commercial awareness
- You must be flexible with your time and approach and willing to travel within the region
