About the role
In this exciting opportunity within our Coal business unit, you will work as the Regional Maintenance Manager focused on aligning the 'Day of Operation' needs of the operational business unit with a focus on implementation of the asset strategy to ensure reliability and efficiency.
Reporting into the Head of Coal operations, the role exists to ensure the Operations have access to the capacity and capability of rollingstock and infrastructure to sustain the service delivery.
You will be expected to ensure the successful execution and allocation of resources to effectively perform inspections, maintenance, repairs, production planning, outsourced maintenance works, cleaning, and upgrade of all Pacific National rollingstock, equipment and infrastructure (Assets). With direct accountability across all Coal physical maintenance facilities, you will ensure that any 3rd party facilities also meet Pacific National's quality and safety standards.
You'll be expected to manage a team of direct reports across our Coal maintenance facilities and a larger group of indirect reports, providing leadership and support in a collaborative and inclusive manner. You will foster a high-performance work culture through the development of an empowered and engaged team who work together to ensure the safe delivery of maintenance activities.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading and developing a large team with a focus on engagement and building capability
- Contributing as a key member of Coal Leadership team, supporting the delivery of strategic Pacific National objectives
- Overall accountability for the execution of maintenance strategies and objectives that result in the safe and effective delivery of maintenance services and activities for the Coal portfolio, along with providing services for other commodities
- Interact with functional teams where required and our third-party locomotive maintenance & repair providers to identify and create solutions that enhance and prevent asset cancellations and delays.
- Develop an annual maintenance plan for the provision of maintenance in partnership with the business and the maintenance suppliers and in compliance with Pacific National's Asset Management Strategy.
- Develop strategic relationships across Pacific National, partnering with Locomotive Management, Scheduling and Planning, Engineering, and operational stakeholders in the management of rollingstock maintenance for the business.
- Prepare, forecast and deliver operating and capital expenditure budgets relating to the maintenance of Assets.
- Resource and manage initiatives to optimise the coal business
- Undertake & provide technical support to complete investigations (as required)
About you
To be successful in this role you must have proven leadership experience in a people management capacity within a complex maintenance and operations environment.
In addition, ideal applicants will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong program management experience achieved in an operational environment, preferably in rail
- Extensive contract management exposure, with demonstrable negotiation capability to achieve sound “value for money”, commercial outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, liaise and interact at senior management level with internal and external customers and suppliers
- Background in rail, transport, logistics or heavy industry is preferred but not essential
- Previous experience with rolling stock programs is advantageous but not essential
- Tertiary qualifications in an Engineering, Business or Project Management would be well regarded
