About The Opportunity

Fairfield Hospital are seeking enthusiastic, eager and driven Registered Midwives to join their highly skilled and dedicated team.

Working in the midwifery team at Fairfield Hospital will see you excel in your career. The team are highly skilled, experienced midwives who are looking to educate the next generation of midwifery professionals. Being a small, dynamic hospital, you will have the opportunity to learn from the team who are focused on developing and supporting all midwifery staff with true hands on midwifery experience unique to smaller facilities. You will have the opportunity to utilise your skills across the full spectrum of midwifery or specialise in a clinical area.

Many mothers who give birth for the first time at the hospital return for their next child and you will have the opportunity to build quality professional relationships with the women in your care.

Fairfield is a progressive hospital, always looking at ways that they can improve the care provided to the Women and families and provide staff with workplace satisfaction. Fairfield Hospital have opened a new Day Assessment Unit and will hopefully commence their MAPS Model of Care in early 2023 which are both examples of the quality changes being made at Fairfield.

What you'll be doing

The midwife is a responsible and accountable professional who works in partnership with women to give the necessary support, care and advice during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to conduct births on the midwife's own responsibility and to provide care for the newborn and the infant.

This position may entail rotating through various clinical areas such as, Birthing Unit, Post/Antenatal Ward, Special Care Nursery and Antenatal Clinic.

The team at Fairfield Hospital is supportive and encouraging, with the senior members of the hospital always looking for ways to enrich the experience of the team.

The hospital sits close to public transport (T-Way), Public Schools, a major shopping centre and has an onsite cafeteria. Ample onsite parking is available with only a short walk from the carpark to the hospital.

How to ApplyTo be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Midwife with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. Demonstrated recent experience as a Registered Midwife in an environment appropriate to the relevant specialty
  3. Demonstrated ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, families, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of evidenced based midwifery care
  7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace.
