The Registered Nurse position will provide direct support to the operations of Flintwood Disability Services through reviewing and implementing health care needs and plans for participants. The position will also be responsible for providing training and support for staff in all areas of healthcare management and medication administration.

- Demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain contacts with a broad range of people and community organisations to facilitate Participants access to services, appropriate communication with fellow employees, Families and other people involved with the service and in the life of the Participants.
Participant Safeguards and Wellbeing:
- Safeguard and promote the rights and wellbeing of every Participant so they are recognised, respected, protected and fulfilled. In providing quality services, Flintwood staff must comply with:
- the Disability Service Standards
- the Principles and Objectives of the Disability Act 2006
- the United Nations Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2006
- Cultural and Linguistic Diversity -Undertake all interactions with participants and co-workers in a culturally sensitive manner.
Work, Health and Safety:
- Comply with WHS procedures and Safe Operating Procedures developed by Flintwood including:
- Work in a manner that considers the health and safety of self and others
- Report to work fit for duty and not negatively affected by alcohol, drugs, medication or other substances
- Ensure that all work areas are maintained in a safe condition
- Complete site induction
- Identify, report and record all safety hazards, incidents and injuries
- Participate in WHS training programs
- Participate in WHS consultation and communication meetings
- Wear and maintain personal protective equipment and clothing correctly
Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:
- Attend meetings, workshops, conferences and training as required.
- Become familiar with and follow Flintwood’s policies, procedures and management instructions.
- Be open to new ways of doing things that enhance the quality of life of participants; respond to challenges with innovative ideas and solutions.
- Strive for and promote a continuous quality improvement culture in the quality system and work practices and offer strategic advice to improve participant relations.
Essential Criteria
- Registered Nurse (RN) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with at least two years FTE post graduate experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health and disability services.
- Confidence to critically assess and provide appropriate, effective and timely care in a multi-disciplinary approach.
- Understanding of documentation, systems and medical records
- Ability to train others in basic healthcare practices
- Understanding of the health system
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of, and contribute to, a person-centred team
- Facilitate good working relationships with the community, participants, their families, and carers, service managers within Flintwood, through clear communication and a willingness to work towards positive outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain contacts with a broad range of people and community organisations to facilitate participants access to services, appropriate communication with fellow workers, families and other people involved with the service and in the life of participants
- Understanding of legislation relevant to supporting people with disabilities including the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014, NDIA and The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team, environment including as a leader of a team.
- Current CPR qualifications.
- Current Working with Children Check
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence
- Current Criminal History Check
- Experiencing in working with people with disabilities, preferably in a community setting,
- Experience in working with people who have complex health support needs.
Desirable Criteria
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Qualifications in Disability work or Welfare
You will need:
- Intermediate computer and MS office skills
- Must be punctual, reliable, and flexible.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel in response to program needs.
- Hold a valid and current Australian Drivers Licence
- Hold or are willing to obtain a First Aid Certificate
- Must provide a NDIS Workers Screening Clearance Check
- A current NSW Working with Children Clearance check.
- TAA Qualification highly Desirable
