The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Southeast Queensland. Together with our four Aboriginal community-controlled founding members, we are focused on our collective vision of healthy, strong and vibrant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities.
The Goodna Clinic was established in 2014 in response to the large and unmet health and related needs of a large and growing population of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Goodna region.
About the role?
The position is responsible for specialist community and primary health nursing services that focuses on the prevention, early detection and management of health problems for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team ensure effective screening, service delivery and administration practices are delivered in accordance with the IUIH Model of Care. The role will entail service delivery from designated primary clinic locations and outreach services, under limited supervision, as required.
Day to day duties will include:
- Provide day to day health service activities to the designated communities within the context of Primary Health Care in a professional, confidential and culturally safe manner
- Perform service delivery within scope of practice and within own personal experience and ability, observing all standard clinical practice policies and procedures
- Provide routine screening and early detection of health conditions through initiation and performance of all aspects of comprehensive health assessments, other than areas identified as requiring the GP for completion
- Provide treatment and care to patient under the direction of the doctor including immunization of children under five years old against childhood diseases as by the doctor.
- Enter any recalls and reminders issuing from the consultation into the electronic health record system
- Actively maintain knowledge of the application of the MBS relevant to your job role and ensure information about completed MBS items is effectively captured for accurate processing of claims
- Assist families transition and encourage continued to engagement with their local AMS throughout their involvement with the Hub
- Ensure information is recorded accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record system, and that records are maintained in accordance with AGPAL standards
About You?
- Current AHPRA Registration (Registered Nurse)
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current CPR (willing to obtain)
- Minimum bachelor’s in nursing qualification
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business.
- Demonstrated clinic based experience, in particular the ability to implement and support a medical/primary health care team and effectively plan and coordinate own and teams’ workload
- An ability to communication and empathise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
