Western Private Hospital (WPH), is a boutique private hospital located in Footscray servicing the West of Melbourne with the provision of acute services which has 62 inpatient beds.

We are fully equipped for a comprehensive range of surgical procedures including general, bariatric, oral max, colorectal, endoscopy, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic, gynaecology, plastics, vascular and urology, as well as diagnostic and interventional cardiology and high dependency services.

About the Role

The newly created Admissions Access Team which comprises of the Clinical Pre-Admissions Service and the Unplanned Admissions Access Service has an exciting opportunity available for a Registered Nurse with experience in patient pre-admissions and admissions processes.

Under the direction and leadership of the Director of Nursing, the role of the RN – Admissions Access Team is to provide a consolidated and streamlined approach to the pre-admission process and establish a central point of contact with continuity of care for patient admissions to WPH. 

The RN – Admissions Access Team is responsible for processing of all surgical and cardiac pre-admissions functions and is the primary point of contact during the hours of 7:00am and 6:00pm between Doctors and WPH working in conjunction with Clinical Managers to facilitate timely patient access and patient flow, with a focus on patient centred, integrated care at all times.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to - 

  • Ensure patients are appropriately assessed pre-operatively and receive patient information that is consumer centred and in a timely sequence prior to having a surgical or cardiac procedure.
  • Work flexibly to provide leave relief for Admission Office staff and at times provide clinical nursing support to the Day Procedure Unit. 
  • Support and liaise with NUMs/In-Charge Nurses regarding unplanned patient admissions.
  • Provide clinical support and guidance to the Administration Pre-Admissions Team as required.
  • Escalation of issues pertaining to patient admissions to the DON for resolution in a timely manner.

The shifts and hours of work will rotate between either 7:00am-3:00pm and 10:00am-6:00pm.

Selection Criteria

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, Division 1
  • Minimum 3 years' postgraduate experience within acute care 
  • CCU/Critical Care background will be highly regarded
  • Excellent knowledge and assessment skills in clinical and surgical nursing including the ability to preoperatively identify and escalate patient related anaesthetic and surgical risks.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient centred care including the ability to develop a patient centred care plan, including appropriate referral as required
  • An open and approachable attitude, responding well to the needs of various hospital departments and staff in a timely and accessible way
  • A positive attitude and an adaptable approach to problem solving and decision making
  • Organisational skills with an ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical timeframes
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team 
  • Strong collaborative interpersonal skills with well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer literacy MS Office applications and patient management systems 
  • Familiarity with health funds, Medicare, DVA, WorkCover and third-party requirements in a private hospital
