The Role:The Oceania Province’s vision of Health Care in the Province is to enable Brothers to maintain a good quality of life. It is fundamental that the approach to ageing and Aged Care responds to the spiritual, social and personal needs of each Brother.
The following objectives for the position of Registered Nurse have been determined:
Objectives of Health Care in the Province:
- To promote the concept of positive ageing to Brothers of all ages. This should include a spirituality of ageing.
- To promote health, the prevention of disease and a safe-living environment.
- To provide the living arrangements and the support structures for ageing Brothers to enable each Brother to remain for as long as possible in a normal and supportive community setting.
- To encourage Brothers to find realistic and appropriate ways of continuing involvement in ministry/service to others.
- To encourage Brothers to see ministry as an integral part of a Brother’s life. Brothers should also be encouraged to be free enough to be ministered to as appropriate, especially in the later years of life.
- To provide support to manage and/or reduce the effects of debilitating disorders.
- To develop a range of residential options which provide choice and appropriate support as Brother’s age.
- To promote health and wellness and proactive strategies for all brothers.
Registered Nurse Position Purpose:
To provide continuity and ongoing health care support to Brothers in the Victoria region, across a 5-day week in line with the TOCB Model of care.
Key ResponsibilitiesKey Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Weekly communication and updates of the current health issues of the Brothers in NSW from the Director of Health and Wellbeing
- Communication of current health issues of the Brothers with the Brothers Cluster team for NSW.
- Visitation in working hours of Brothers who have health needs that have to be monitored and assessed over the weekend. Have competency in taking vital signs and interpret changes in these observations to support the health needs of the Brother.
- Report to Health Care Co-ordinator Brother’s health needs, changes in physical and psychological needs that may need further assessment and change in delivery of care.
- Accompany unwell Brothers to hospital to provide medical staff with an up-to-date report on the Brothers current health issues, including a list of current medication.
- Attend and provide transport to Brothers that may have medical appointments in the work hours.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Well-being or their delegate(s). Eg (Assisting Brothers who are frail and recently returned from hospital with personal care needs and medication supervision).
Key Responsibilities with other Health Care Providers
- Organise My Aged Care assessments as Independent Brothers Age.
- Ensure home care packages and CHSP are being utilised to capacity.
- Maintain positive relationships with Aged Care Service Providers to facilitate entry into an Aged Care Facility
- During hospital admissions for Brothers keep regular contact with the doctor, Registered Nurses and other health care providers, to optimise discharge planning.
- Organise aids that will promote health recovery from the hospital admission.
- Apply quality management and continuous improvement processes to all activities under direct control.
- Maintain effective working relationships across various functions.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
- The Registered Nurse reports directly to the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
- This is a full-time position requiring an ability to travel.
Health Care Worker Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree in Nursing
- Demonstrated experience working in the Aged Care sector.
- Ability to analyse medical information, vital signs and data.
- Prior experience in a health care setting, where there was a demonstrated ability to work with other employees to achieve agreed goals.
- Understanding of medical confidentiality laws and practices.
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as an RN
- Current Drivers Licence.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Computer skills and mobile phone skills.
- Current Influenza and COVID vaccination status for appropriate age recommendation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Current National Police Check.
- Working with Children check may be required.
