The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian Aboriginal communities. 2023 marked a landmark year as VAHS proudly celebrated its 50-year of providing a comprehensive range of medical, dental, allied health and social services for our community.
As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting research into the ongoing needs of the community.

About the Opportunity
The Registered Nurse will support Medical Practitioners and Aboriginal Health Workers on matters relating to patient care. You will also participate in evaluating patients’ care plans and provide training and education to Aboriginal Health Workers.
Full time & part time positions available (South Morang, St Albans, and Fitzroy)
Key Selection Criteria
To be considered for this role you must have the following:
- The capability and engagement to understand the philosophy and principles of Aboriginal Community Control and transforming it into practice.
- A minimum of at least 5 years post graduate RN experience and demonstrate interest in working with complex clients.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking skills and the capability of exercising a high level of professional autonomy.
- Able to work closely, train & collaborate with Aboriginal Health Workers in a community-controlled setting.
- Demonstrated patient-focused approach in service provision with empathy and interest in patient needs & commitment to genuinely making a difference to the lives of our Community.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
- An active commitment to Health Promotions and Childhood immunization.
- A commitment to and experience in continuing quality improvement and commitment to leading/maintaining accreditation standards.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) COVID-19 vaccinations prior to the Commencement Date
Qualifications:
- Qualified Registered Nurse Division 1 with current registration with AHPRA
- Current CPR and First Aid certificate
- Current ALS certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Current Nurse Immunizer Certification or willingness to obtain.
