The Opportunity
The Registered Nurse (Midwife) provides nursing support to all services that are provided in Women's and Children's Clinics. Gynaecology nursing experience will be viewed favourably.
The multidisciplinary team includes hospital and visiting medical staff, Registered nurses, Registered Midwives, Enrolled nurses, Student Midwives, casual and rotational Midwives, medical students, Social Workers, Allied Health staff, Aboriginal Health Workers, Clerical staff and Volunteers.
What we are looking for?
- Develop in partnership with women, individualised care plans for antenatal, postnatal and intrapartum care and provide midwifery care in the hospital and in the community.
- Provide support, guidance, preceptorship, supervision and mentoring to new and less experienced staff.
- Apply evidence-based guidelines to achieve positive care outcomes for recipients of health care services.
- High standard of written and oral communication skills with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of scope of practice, legislation and professional requirements.
Role requriements
- Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
- Mandatory: Bachelor of Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
- Demonstrates clinical skills in IV cannulation, water immersion in labour and waterbirth, perineal suturing and speculum examination. If not competent in these skills must be willing to undertake the necessary training during the term of this employment.
- The successful applicant will be required to complete Townsville University Hospital mandatory competencies and the Maternity Support Unit mandatory competencies, the Drug Therapy Protocol, Examination of the Newborn package and the Water Immersion in Labour package, within three months of commencement.
- Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.

Generous remuneration package value up to $5294.00 p.m. comprising:
- Salary range of $40.51 to $51.97 p.h. (Nurse Grade 5)
- Annual leave with 17.5% loading
- 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
