We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurses to provide essential healthcare services during Overnight Shifts in correctional facilities across South Australia.
Role Overview:
As an experienced Registered Nurse working within our SAPOL team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality healthcare services to inmates during Overnight Shifts, ensuring the well-being of detainees and SAPOL staff and supporting hospital avoidance. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a challenging yet rewarding environment, making a meaningful difference to the health and well-being of individuals in custody.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to detainees and Police officers within the scope of AHPRA guidelines and training during Overnight Shifts.
- Conduct health assessments, including triage, and administer medications as prescribed.
- Assess detainees for 'Fit for Custody' in collaboration with admitting SAPOL Officer.
- Complete accurate and timely patient notes and documentation.
- Collaborate and communicate with General Practitioners and other healthcare professionals.
- Monitor and manage acute and chronic health conditions, responding promptly to medical emergencies.
- Attend regular training to stay updated and maintain current skills and knowledge within your scope of practice.
- Perform forensics procedures as required (full training provided).
About You:
Successful candidates will possess a Bachelor of Nursing and current unrestricted AHPRA registration. You will also bring with you a minimum of 3 years’ acute care experience as a Registered Nurse. You will have strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and the ability to work independently as the only nurse on shift.
You must also possess:
- National Police Clearance
- Unrestricted South Australian Driver's License
- WWCC and NDIS clearances
- Current manual handling, first aid, and CPR certificates
- Proof of mandatory vaccinations (including COVID and Flu)
