Registered Psychiatric Nurse - Adult Acute Unit Permanent full time and Part Time$35.04 - $45.03 per hourAbout the role
The Adult Acute Unit is a 23-bed acute inpatient facility, offering intensive, short-term mental health treatment for people in the Grampians region. It is a dynamic area of mental health, striving to provide the highest standards of care for the community while maintaining a commitment to a continuously improving clinical environment. The Adult Acute Unit (AAU) is a critical component of mental health services in the Grampians region, providing a crucial 23-bed acute inpatient facility for individuals in need of intensive, short-term mental health treatment. This facility plays a pivotal role in the community, ensuring that individuals facing acute mental health crises receive the care and support they require.

The Adult Acute Unit offers continuing professional development with scheduled, regular sessions and individual/group sessions provided as needed with acute mental health educators. All staff are supported by a strong team culture, and staff new to the Mental Health field are provided with training and support to further develop skills.As part of wider mental health services, AAU implements safewards principles (a model designed to improve safety of everyone in the environment by reducing conflict and flashpoints) and commence recovery-oriented practice.Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake MSE's and risk assessments
  • Provide information and education to clients, family and significant others
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation
  • Participate in unit portfolio's in discussion with NUM
  • Work towards achieving organisational and unit objectives
Skills and experience
  • Hold a current Nursing Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse Div 1
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, manage competing priorities and meet varied deadlines in a timely manner
  • Relevant experience in, and ongoing commitment to the delivery of evidence based best practice and family inclusive treatments for a person with a mental health disorder
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated awareness of relevant legislation and related rights and responsibilities

The classification is Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 (NP21 - NP26) which ranges from $35.04 - $45.03 per hourAll appointments are subject to a satisfactory police records check, immunisation clearance and Working with Children check and/or NDIS Worker Screening Check.All employees must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required, which at a minimum is a surgical mask.
