Job description

The Role:

Opportunities exist for suitably qualified doctors to become full-time Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registrars at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie, Tasmania. NWRH is a 160 bed acute care facility, employing 780 staff, located on the North West coast of Tasmania. NWRH is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), and is also an accredited teaching hospital with the University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School.

The NWRH 8 bed ICU is led by an Intensivist who is a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) and clinical care is provided by fully qualified Intensivists who are fellows of the CICM with a 24/7 on-call cover arrangement. The unit possesses state-of-the-art equipment to provide advanced mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement, haemodynamic monitoring, echocardiography, ultrasound guided procedures, bronchoscopy and other ICU therapies.

The unit is accredited by College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for Foundation and Rural training in Intensive Care Medicine and is approved to train CICM candidates under Commonwealth-funded IRTP and TMSDT programs.

DOH-North West will provide you with all the required support, in the form of immediately available and easily approachable Specialist supervision, learning resources and regular teaching to perform your role safely and effectively. Our teaching program includes weekly teaching and weekly CICM First Part Examination preparation sessions. Our ICU registrars are also welcome to attend the BASIC course, which we run twice per year. One of the Consultants has been a Primary CICM examiner.

North West Tasmania also offers a brilliant lifestyle for families, with affordable housing, excellent access and choice of education located within strong and vibrant rural and urban centres. Our pristine wilderness and coastlines are on your doorstep and your work/life balance will ensure that you have the best of both worlds!

We offer contemporary, well equipped work environments and dynamic team environments, excellent remuneration and relocation assistance, along with a flexible work/life balance, attractive salary package and commitment to ongoing professional development. Assistance with accommodation is available.

Doctors who are not in a training stream (Unaccredited Registrars/Senior Residents) and wanting hands-on experience with high-acuity Intensive Care are also welcome to apply.
