About the Role:

As the Regulation and Standards Lead, you will be responsible for developing and executing CPA Australia’s policy and advocacy priorities in regulation and Standards, according to our Advocacy strategy. You will drive all policy and advocacy activities that relate to local and international matters relating to laws and regulations, professional and ethical standards, that are relevant to our membership. Standards will include all professional and ethical standards that accountants are required to comply with as part of their professional obligations.

This is a key senior leadership role and you will fulfil your responsibilities in a manner that influences policy outcomes in the interest of our members, the profession and the public. Your responsibilities also include:

  • Identify advocacy priorities to inform strategy and execute activities in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop policy positions and submissions on key issues related to regulation and Standards in consultation with members, colleagues and CPA Australia leadership
  • Identify and initiate thought leadership work through self-generated or commissioned research to support advocacy goals and policy development
  • Maintain and enhance the profile of CPA Australia through the development of public statements, representation at external events and forums, and development of relationships with key experts and interested members
  • Provide advice tand input to executive management, team members and other stakeholders on key issues and impacts arising from proposed and actual changes to Regulations and Standards
  • Perform Secretariat functions for the Ethics CoE and attend Public Practice and other member committees to obtain expert views in relation to advocacy activities
  • Lead and coach team members to enhance their knowledge and skills in regulation and Standards

About You:

This position would be suitable for candidates who are Degree or post graduate qualified in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Regulation or other related discipline.

You will also have:

  • Extensive relevant experience in regulation and Standards policy and/or administration with responsibilities including policy development and/or implementation, technical advice, stakeholder engagement and strategy execution
  • Demonstrated results in advocacy and/or technical advice including influencing policy development, representing stakeholders in consultation, creation and delivery of technical content and engaging with decision-makers
  • Ability to build ongoing, effective and collaborative working relationships with external stakeholders and decision-makers, as well as within CPA Australia and with members
  • Political nous including ability to identify and evaluate the political environment, work with key stakeholders and negotiate outcomes with decision makers
  • Demonstrated ability to execute organisational strategies and develop a positive high-performance culture
  • Demonstrable ability to anticipate and respond to changes in the policy environment including detailed technical understanding and evaluation of legislation, Regulations and Standards
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor to audiences such as government, public service, member sectors and the media
  • Knowledge of the accounting profession, the factors shaping its future and the role of advocacy and education in supporting the profession
