Job description

Part-time Rescue Phone Coordinators

Our wildlife need your help!

At Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary we empower, educate and inspire our community to connect and care for wildlife, their habitats and the environment.  Our people are the key to realising our vision of a future where wildlife and the environment is valued and thrives.

Last year, our Wildlife Rescue Service hotline received more than 17,300 calls for sick, injured and orphaned animals.  Operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the hotline coordinated rescues right across Tasmania, providing animals in need with access to life saving treatment and specialist care.

In response to increasing demand on our hotline, Bonorong is looking to add additional Rescue Phone Coordinators to our team and invites applications from candidate passionate about our native animals and the environment.

About the role

Working on a part-time basis and working a minimum of 7 hours per week, vacancies exist for daytime, evening and overnight shifts rostered across all days of the week. Candidates with the flexibility to fill multiple shifts and undertake additional work at short notice will be looked upon favourably.

Working from Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton – around 30 minutes north of Hobart CBD – you will need to provide your own, reliable transport to get to and from work.  In addition to filling any immediate vacancies, we are looking to appoint suitable candidates to an ‘order of merit’, whereby further appointments will be made as additional vacancies arise over the next 12 months.

About you

Ideally, you will possess:

  • Knowledge or experience in the rescue or handling of native wildlife.
  • A broad, general understanding of Tasmanian native species.
  • A minimum three years of work experience in a faced-paced, customer-focussed role.
  • The capacity to work well under pressure, demonstrating a logical approach to problem solving and exercising sound judgement at all times.
  • Computer literacy including the capacity to learn new systems and record information in an accurate and timely manner.
  • A calm, professional phone manner and well-developed interpersonal skills.

Your application

If you have a passion for wildlife and view this as an opportunity to contribute as part of a high performing team, we want to hear from you!

Candidates are asked to submit a written application comprised of a maximum, 2-page cover letter and a current resume to ************@bonorong.com.au

Please ensure that your cover letter includes the hours that you would be available to fill and the date from which you would be available to join our team.

Applications close 5pm, Friday 17th May 2024.
