Based in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture at UNSW, the City Futures Research Centre has developed into a national leader in scholarly applied public interest research on our cities since 2005. We collaborate with a range of academic researchers, both within UNSW and at universities across Australia and overseas. Our applied focus also involves strong partnerships with local, state and federal government agencies, as well as industry stakeholders and community groups, to develop evidence-based ideas for tackling the complex challenges of urban change and growth, while maintaining a commitment to independent public interest research, a critical component of the Centre’s philosophy.

Why Your Role Matters:
As part of the CFRC’s Sustainable Mobility team, as the Research Associate, you will work on a number of funded research projects including the NHMRC project titled ‘Building CapaCITY/É for Sustainable Transportation’. This post presents a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to build on their existing research skills in a creative and dynamic research environment.
The role of the Research Associate reports to the project Chief Investigator and has no direct reports.
Accountabilities:
Undertake specific research tasks under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to development of research activities.
Support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets.
Undertake discipline-appropriate research activities, e.g. surveys, literature reviews, data gathering and/or recording of results using appropriate research methods.
Prepare ethics approval submissions as required.
Actively participate as a member of a team in achieving set research team goals and milestones on time.
Participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops as required.
Who You Are:
To be successful in this role you will have:
• A PhD (or near completion) in a related field.
• Strong background and demonstrated knowledge of transport planning, transport modelling, Active Transport, and/or travel behaviour study.
• Experience with machine learning, spatial analysis, and/or software engineering would be a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision, and commitment to build those skills through work at the Centre.
• Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
• Demonstrated track record of publications relative to opportunity.
