  • Opportunity to join the School of Medical Sciences as a Research Fellow in Alzheimer's Disease
  • Base Salary starting from $118,390 + 17% superannuation

Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.
As a Research Fellow, you work as part of a new multidisciplinary project led by Dr. Eleanor Drummond and Professor Sharon Naismith aiming to identify the brain protein changes that drive Alzheimer's disease development. You will lead a research program focused on profiling early protein changes in post-mortem brain tissue and determining how protein changes are mechanistically involved in Alzheimer's disease using biochemistry and/or cell culture models of disease.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • undertake original research focused on identifying protein drivers of Alzheimer's disease
  • design and deliver high-quality research in a timely fashion to meet strict deadlines in a team environment
  • publish research in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals in collaboration with Dr Drummond and Prof. Naismith
  • assist with supervision of students and research assistants within the Drummond lab
  • collaborate with members of the Drummond and Naismith labs and external collaborators to enhance multidisciplinary research efforts.
About you
  • PhD in Neuroscience, or a relevant field
  • a strong track-record in neurodegenerative disease research (preferably Alzheimer's disease), with a proven ability to lead studies to completion as either first or senior author
  • expertise in immunohistochemistry, microscopy and advanced image analysis techniques
  • expertise in biochemistry and/or cell culture studies
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by consistent publication of peer-reviewed articles in relevant journals with demonstrated impact on the scientific community
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and coordinating team activities
  • proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • an emerging leadership profile in neuroscience as evidenced by non-research contributions to relevant professional societies and/or institution (e.g. conference organization, peer review, editorial responsibilities, committees etc.)
