The Role
You will join a globally focussed think tank renowned for bringing solid economic and quantitative techniques to the understand what creates peaceful and stable societies. With a passion for “tinkering” with data to find evidence based insights, you will be adept at statistical/economic analysis and be able to write clear and jargon free results. Depending on experience, you may also be tasked with project management across our extensive core and consulting portfolios. About you
You will be looking for a career move that allows you to build and expand on your successful track record of research in international development, economics or political science. While the primary focus of the role will be the production of relevant and timely research, project management and consulting experience will be highly regarded.
Essential Skills
- Master’s degree or similar in a combination of economics and/or statistics, development studies, international relations or other social sciences discipline.
- Minimum two years’ professional experience conducting empirical research and quantitative data analysis specifically related to a combination of social sciences, development studies, economics, statistics and peace and conflict studies.
- Excellent writing skills. Experience in business or consulting writing for a non-technical audience will be prioritised over academic publications.
- Strong interpersonal and client management skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills is expected.
- Experience handling large datasets and for statistical analysis. SQL advantageous.
- Experience in R (or other statistical software/programming language).
- Can work both within a team and with minimal supervision when needed.
- Commercial/consulting experience.
- A successful track record of writing winning proposals.
- Research Project Management Experience.
- Work with the Sydney Research Team to deliver on existing core and consulting projects of IEP.
- Write IEP’s core and client facing reports on global issues.
- Be available for morning and evening meetings across US and EU time zones.
- Project management and mentoring.
- A Can-Do Attitude.
- A passion for “tinkering” with data and problem solving.
- Excellent attention to detail and solution oriented.
- Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.

Hours: This is a full time, in office, one day a week working from home, contract position (6-12 months).
Remuneration: The Research Fellow remuneration package will be commensurate with experience.
