About the role
  
This role provides a unique opportunity for the right candidate to apply their research leadership skills to projects that will make a real difference to cancer Prevention and Screening.

This is similar to a high-Level B to mid-Level C academic position. It involves leading a small team of early career researchers who are working with the community and our prevention team to co-design and deliver real-world evidence-based solutions to improve cancer Prevention and Screening.
  
Our independently funded research department is situated in the not-for-profit sector and collaborates with universities around Australia, bringing you the best of both worlds – building your academic track record while directly informing the programs and services delivered by Cancer Council Queensland.

This role is a Fixed-Term, Full-time (5 days per week) role for 2 years.   
  
Under the supervision of the Senior Manager (Health Systems & Behavioural Research), drive the ongoing strategic advancement of CRC research programs and:  

  • Actively contribute to leadership and co-ordination of cancer research projects and where appropriate, contribute to other health research initiatives at the CRC as directed.
  • Manage day-to-day aspects of projects, including staff, budgets, reporting, and all other operational matters as appropriate.
  • Prepare/assist in the preparation of grant applications for research funding in collaboration with CRC leadership.
  • Publish in high quality, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present results in various formats and arenas, including scientific and policy publications and presentations to academic and other audiences.
  • Initiate, foster, and participate in multidisciplinary research alliances and collaborative projects with research partners and national and international collaborators.
About you
  
To be successful in this role, you will have the following qualifications, experiences, knowledge, and skills:
  
Qualification/s and Experience
  
Essential
  • Candidate must have completed a PhD in a health science field (e.g., psychology, public health, nursing, or other allied health), obtained at least two years ago. Applicants with exclusively biomedical science degrees are not suitable for this role.
  • Demonstrated experience in conceptualising, designing and conducting health behaviour and and/or health systems research in the context of chronic disease Prevention and/or behaviour change.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing other researchers to undertake research projects and to produce high quality research outputs, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations.
  • Demonstrated application of study design and statistical analysis to address behavioural research questions (preferably in preventive health context).
  • Experience supervising research students, including Honours, Masters, and/or PhD.  
Desirable
  • A track record in cancer prevention research.
Technical Skills and Abilities
  
Essential
  • Demonstrated initiative in conceptualising and leading new research projects.
  • Strong skills in quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to prepare a variety of research outputs and reports in a timely manner with minimal review and editing required.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and edit the written work of junior team members and students to reach publication standard.
  • Demonstrated skills in project coordination.
  • Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a positive, focused, and timely manner and the ability to address issues as they arise.
  • Highly developed time management skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
Desirable
  • Advanced skills in (and/or evidence of teaching) quantitative data analysis, including use of statistical programs such as R, SAS, and MPlus.
  • An in depth understanding of Information Technology applications for research (e.g. AI, online data collection platforms, online database management or similar)
