The Hydrological Scientist will conduct research to improve our understanding of flood generation processes and how to model those across historical time scales out to forecasts and future projections. As a team member of the Hydrological Applications team, you will focus on inundation modelling to strengthen the national Climate and Disaster Resilience.
This work will directly contribute to the Bureau's capabilities of technological transfer to operations with a key focus on ensuring Australians are able to respond to current and future natural hazards and associated disasters. This work will be undertaken both independently and under guidance. It will include analysing observational data and extremely large data sets based on simulations from earth system and land surface models.
As the successful candidate you will implement novel innovative techniques and utilise a variety of sophisticated statistical and physical techniques, as well as machine learning, making use of high-performance computing platforms.
