The Research Scientist – Fruit Quality will develop and carry out research into the effects of pre- and post-harvest management on the physiology of fruits and vegetables and investigate fruit quality during transport to export markets and subsequent shelf life. The position is responsible to the Research Leader Horticulture Production Sciences and is accountable for project milestone and final reports, scientific publications and presentations to peers, stakeholders and the scientific community. The appointee will be required to manage scientific, technical and casual staff, and financial and physical resources within projects to ensure delivery of research outputs. The position will actively engage with a team of experienced scientists at the Tatura SmartFarm, at other departmental sites such as Mildura, and with collaborating scientists in various R&D agencies. The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the division.Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of plant physiology as applied to horticultural crops.
- Demonstrated experience in applied research and development in aspects of fresh food products.
- Ability to establish and manage applied laboratory and field experiments under minimal supervision.
