The Opportunity
SARDI Entomology is developing Sterile Insect Technology for the management of Sheep Blowfly through a project on Kangaroo Island. The Research Scientist will work at the Waite campus Adelaide on improving the production and developing release strategies of sterile flies, in close collaboration with the production facility on Kangaroo Island.
You will work as part of a small team, with the project lead, technicians and masters/PhD students, to design and undertake experiments, analyse data, publish results and propose improvements coordinating the research activities in this project. You will plan and manage laboratory experiments, ensure activities are running smoothly and safely, and communicate effectively with all team members and stakeholders.
The Research Scientist is expected to have an active role prioritising and proposing new research approaches, in coordination with the scientific coordination committee.

Special Conditions

• Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
• Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
• Potential to further develop position towards full time.

Requirements

• Possession of drivers licence and willing to drive.
• Travel and occasional out of hours work may be required at times of heavy workloads or biological experiments.
• You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations
• You will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies
• Essential: Honours / MSc in biology or equivalent
• Desirable: PhD is highly advantageous

Remuneration
PO2 $86,950 - $96,233 per annum
