It has a diverse range of people and partnerships that span Australia and 25 countries, fostering a shared vision to create measurable economic, environmental, and social impact.As a Research Technician you'll be a part of the Legume Genetics and Genomics team focuses on developing genetic and multi-omics resources for lupins, as well as understanding lupin grain development and composition. The team's research aims to enhance lupin grain quality and nutritional value, making lupins more attractive to the food market.This is a hands-on role for a researcher technician primarily contributing to genetic and target gene identification to achieve the team's objectives toward breeding lupin varieties with improved agronomic and seed quality traits.   • Contribute to the development and delivery of scientific research in the areas of plant genomics and pre-breeding.
  • Prepare sample for DNA or RNA sequencing, analyses of sequence data, genotyping and phenotyping data, and gene expression.
  • Design and perform experiments and data analyses, design new processes by adapting existing techniques to meet special circumstances or undertake modifications to methods requiring some innovation.
  • Conduct literature reviews, investigations and inspections in the laboratory, glasshouse or field including associated analysis possibly involving statistical or data analytical software.
  • Maintain accurate records of all experimental procedures and results obtained which underpin future research decisions, publication, and IP protection using an electronic notebook system.
  • General laboratory/glass house/field maintenance including solution/media preparation, maintenance of glass house and field plants, maintenance of laboratory supplies.

Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Molecular Biology/Plant Physiology or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in grain biology and development.
  • Prior experience with molecular biology, genomic and/or transcriptomic data analytics.
  • Demonstrated excellence in laboratory record keeping and data storage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a range of stakeholders in a dynamic team.
  • Focus on continuous improvement in Health and Safety in the workplace.
Desirable
  • Experience with propagation of legume plants.
  • Experience with, or interest in, data sciences, and biotechnologies.
  • Previous experience with use of Electronic Laboratory Record systems.
  • Previous experience with R language and/or computer coding.
  • Previous experience with use of Health and Safety management and incident recording software such as DoneSafe.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and collaboration tools, Teams and Sharepoint.
