About the Role
The Residential Support Worker works under the general direction of the Team Leader and is responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for young people residing in the crisis accommodation programme for AYAS and providing support to the young people residing in the transitional units.
About AYAS
Parkerville Children and Youth Care’s Armadale Youth Accommodation Service (AYAS) is a short-term crisis accommodation for at risk or homeless young people between the ages of 15 and 21. The Armadale Youth Accommodation Service is a six-bed facility that can provide short term accommodation for young people.
During their stay at the Armadale Youth Accommodation Service, young people are provided with a safe environment to live. Our team of Youth Workers assist and encourage young people to make positive changes in their lives through informal counselling, referring them to services that can assist them with any issues they are facing, teaching them independent living skills, inclusive of cooking, cleaning, maintaining gardens and most household chores Our staff also link young people with other services that can assist them with longer-term accommodation.
This role is offered on a casual basis.
As a Residential Support Worker, your duties and responsibilities will be:
Embrace a trauma informed lens in all aspects of your interactions with the clients
Providing emotional support, encouragement and guidance, utilising solution focused brief therapy as appropriate.
Maintain a consistent environment for Parkerville’s young people with an established routine where expectations clear and realistic.
Provide role-modelling of positive behaviours and social interactions
Assist the young people in developing their independent living skills by supporting them with daily tasks, including cooking and cleaning.
Ensure an appropriate level of safety is maintained for young people at the premises and on outings,
Be apart of a larger team on a 24-hour shift roster with rotations
To be successful for this role, the applicant will have:
Experience in Youth work, working with at-risk and homeless youth.
Understanding and experience in case management and advocacy for youth and families.
Ability to communicate with and respond to youth and families and to maintain boundaries.
Willingness to develop skills through further professional development in working therapeutically with youth and their families.
Skills in residential care, including care and maintenance of the physical environment, working with individuals and groups of young people through everyday life events and special activities.
